15th anniversary of the Berlin Wall--any events?
Posted: Mon February 2, 2004 04:44 AM UTC
Hey everyone,

I am itching to go back to Berlin, and I was wondering if there are any 15th anniversary commemorative events or ceremonies planned in November--both official and unofficial? I haven't been able to find anything so far.

Thanks,
Mike (der_geograf)

Hi Mike,

I am pretty sure that there will be festivities going on on the 15th anniversary but it still might be a little too early to find anything....

I've just checked www.berlin-online.de to see if they list anything, but as the above post suggested, it would appear that it's a little early. Closer to time -- mid-summer perhaps -- I'd suggest checking this site (Veranstaltungen under Berlin-Finder). Bear in mind, it is all in German, so if that's a problem...

People here aren`t to enthusiastic about the fall of the berlin wall no more... ;)
but 4 sure there is an official event, with politicians talking bullsh1t and celebrating themselve.

Over 75% of the german population would build the wall again, but 10 times higher and wider.

Hi Mike,

I guess there is no more beside of the official festival at 3rd October. Because i cannot remember that we had more than this festival at the 10th anniversary five years ago.

But check www.zitty.de at the end of August/beginning of September. I guess, if there are any festivals in town, you'll find it there.

Take care
Karin

BTW, whats so cool on an anniversary party from the wallbreak????
Why don`t u rather visit some city-partys (stadtfest) n have some beers/ wine there?

little advice: dont get mad if nobody gets enthusiastic here in germany about the wall stuff n about the "freedom" or whatever u call it over the ocean

There's nothing to get mad about--what do you mean?

And what's with the assumptions about my views of "wall stuff n about the "freedom" or whatever u call it over the ocean"?

Didnt meant 2 offend u, sorry
I know about the reactions from people from all over the world; like when having some beers n whoever checks out that i or my friends r from Germany, the 2nd or 3rd sentence is from the wallbreak.
We always roll our eyes n complained about the *** afterwards, paid politicians (Ex- Chancelor Helmut Kohl), russian criminals n stuff, higher taxes, higher prices (f.e. double gasoline, triple cartaxes, double beer prices in restaurants etc)
Its not the thing that just West Germans complain about the wall break, East Germans think the same.

I just meant it from avoiding u 2 get dissapointed cause in fact there isnt 2 much 2 party here, thats why there are no festivities planed, or better said maybe there r some planed but nobody knows about it.
