Parking in Vernazza? July 2011
Posted: Fri July 1, 2011 01:20 AM UTC
Allo!

My parents are stuck traveling to Vernazza by car. Can anyone recommend a parking solution - parking in La Spezia is not an option for them, but we've heard that it may be possible to park in Monterosso al Mare. If so, how much would this cost to park per day? Is this a reasonable option? Does anyone have a link to follow up with?

Much appreciated!

Thank you!

I remember a large carpark in Monterosso al Mare, it was fenced in and a guard at the gate, day-tarif was around 16 euros or so, when I have been there 8 years ago.Maybe 800 meters to walk to the train-station from there !
Vernazza has a carpark as well, but not so large and not fenced in and I think it is rather ment for the cars of the local people

Riomaggiore has a parking lot. It's a multi-story guarded facility. I don't remember the cost but for the day it was reasonable. It's a downhill hike to the train station or the hiking trails. It is also an uphill hike back to the car. ;^)

There is a small parking lot about a quarter mile north of Vernazza that we have not used.

Leave the car at a lot and get a train pass for the day. There is a combo pass for train and hiking the trails. You can hike one way and take the train back if you like.

Only the parking in Monterosso and Riomaggiore is open to non-residents. Other villages have non-resident parking well outside the village itself. The trouble is, parking is very limited and may well be full.

I have seen Levanto offered as another suggestion. Your parents will inevitably have to park and use the train to Vernazza. Although you say it is 'not an option' it may well be worth their going to La Spezia, which has a wider range of parking options, and taking the train from there, especially if they are visiting in the summer months.
