Athens to Zürich ??? Need one way ticket !

Hi !

I am planning a trip to Athens. I have chosen 'Hapag Lloyd' Airline (German) very cheap for going from Basel to Athens. but the problem is that i am unable to find a LOW COST AIRLINE or A Single One Way Tocket (usual price) from Athens to Zürich or anywhere in Switzerland on 24th November '02 's Night or 25th Nov.'02 's Morning.

Need your urgent recommendations.

I'm working into airline biz and I can tell you that there's no low cost carrier between ATH-ZRH.
Actually the only carrier is Swiss (LX) and they aren't cheap.
Olympic (OA) cut fly recently...they are now flying only to GVA (Geneva) on a daily basis...they might be cheaper.
An alternative, is Thai (TG) which is flying BKK-ATH-GVA 3x weekly...but again this is to GVA and not ZRH.

Man, we all suggested to you to go to Barcelona and now you booked an one way flight with no return.

Try to get a cheaper flight to Munich or Stuttgart and take the train from there back to Zurich.

Let me see if I got your question right: you’ve managed to find a low-cost airline flying Basel – Athens, but you can’t find a return flight in the evening of 24 or morning of 25 December on that or even any other airline at all… Am I right?
Okay, this is because 24 is Christmas Eve and 25 is Christmas Day, both highly regarded holidays here in Europe. Most airlines simply stop flying in the afternoon of 24 and do not fly at all on 25 December. I suggest you delay your journey to 26 December, or later.

Dear Umer,
Swiss is also flying early in the morning from Thessaloniki, Greece's second largest city (500km north of Athens) to Zurich if I remember well. They may have better prices to attract clientele from Thessaloniki. A one way train trip from Athens to Thessaloniki would cost you approximately 40-50 euros and it takes 5 or 6 hours. But the morning flight is too early in the morning...

My Dear Friends !

I am so thankful to you all for your nice tips and suggestions.

Some of your tips were really helpful. Anyway, let me tell you the latest.

You know that i asked about whether i should go to Barcelona or Athens. The things is that i decided aobut Athens and why??? because the fare which i am getting for athens is very cheap! and knowing the fact that there is no low cost airline linking Athens with any country close to Switzerland, i think it is a good oppertunity to see all those amazing roman historical places in Athens.

There is NO DOUBT at all that Barcelona must be gr8888888 ! but i am just being a bit cool and patient ;-) i have kept Barcelona up my sleeve and i will continue to check fares of Easy Jet from Geneva to Barcelona and would prefer to go there next month InshAllah most probably when it will be too cold to stay here in Zürich !

About my flights to Athens. I have chosen Olympic Airways and the ticket is 174/- CHF (Swiss Francs) one way Including all taxes, from Stuttgart - Athens and back. I have decided not to take the flight from Basel, though it was 50 Swiss Francs cheaper but there were three things which were not suitable. 1. Wasting 1 Night & Half a day, 1. Too long flight going via Munich, 3. Very early in the morning from Basel ! so i thought that it is not worth it.

ahhhh! I am really exhausted after all this planning. I think you all will agree with my planning ? What do u think ? Am i too stupid ??? please do let me know so that i can learn and improve my skills.

Still embarrassed after getting the dates on your posting totally wrong, let me be the first one to wish you the best of time in Athens.
This is a truly fascinating city, the cradle of western civilization.
Don’t miss the archaeological sites [you can get a combined ticket at the Acropolis, giving you access to all other major sights] and Plaka –the old town. Hike up Lecabettus Hills for a 360 deg view of the city, and spare a few minutes to see the choreographic change of the guard at Syntagma Square.
