Dont worry, vondelpark not so far from stsion approx 2.5km walkable in approx 20-25 mins if weather is nice. trams you can take red yellow or blue lines, take either trams 1,6 or 11 if your hotel is to right side of park alternatively trams 2 or 5 if hotels on the left side of park

Tram #1 for hotels at the North side of the park, stops:
-Leidseplein
-Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat
-J.P. Heijestraat
-Rijnvis Feithstraat
Tram #2 for hotels at the South side of the park, stops:
-Leidseplein
-Hobbemastraat
-Van Baerlestraat
-Jacob Obrechtstraat
-Cornelis Schuytstraat
If you can supply the streetaddress of your hotel (or Hotel name), we can pinpoint thr correct tram and stop.

According to Google maps the Van Baerlestraat tram stop is 187 meters from the Hotel.
Take either the #2 or #5 tram.
The Van Baerlestraat tramstop is the 8th stop from the Central Station.
Upcoming stops are displayed are announce by the tram PA in advance.

Re: can anyone please advise Posted: Tue June 7, 2011 07:43 PM UTC
I have recently visited Amsterdam and used Great Amsterdam Excursions company. They are located at the airport and they have a shuttle service (they bring you directly to the hotel). We took the shuttle together with canal cruise (was really worth it!) and we did the city tour as well. The arrangement was really great. However, if you are arriving in the Amsterdam by train then you will have to probably use the tram or bus to get to the hotel at Vondelpark. There is no need to get the travel card as in the city everything is on the walking distance. I hope that the information will help you. Enjoy the time in Amsterdam! Great city and worth to visit!

The Schiphol Airport mini van shuttle service could be an option; see:
http://www.airporthotelshuttle.nl/site/toonhotel.asp?HotelID=362
and my Schiphol tip about it at:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/cc040
PS Odd enough there is a strike today of the Amsterdam public transportation (just today!)

Better don't, because the avice there is the exit at the Hobbemastraat and walk down the PC Hooftstraat for 3 minutes (that 187 meters from the Van Baerlestraat is a bit shorter).

At the Hobbemastraat the tram will pass the PC Hooftstraat (at the right side) and a little further take a right. I hope you get some sense where to from the Van Baerlestraat tram stop (towards the Park!).

Re: can anyone please advise Posted: Mon June 13, 2011 08:41 AM UTC
tram 6 doesnot exist for a long time, tram 11 is only when RAI congress centre hire them.
For the city garden park in pc hooftstraat is tram 2 and 5 correct (i work on tram 5 so dont forget to wave lol)
Get out van baerlestraat (as written above) at the van Goghmuseum not at rijksmuseum. walk to the right in to van Baerle and just before the bridge turn to the left into PC hooftstraat.
Nice area easy to walk to the museums and the Leidseplein. If you need a supermarket there is one on Museumplein (AH)opposite of the Concertgebouw (concerthall one stop further with tram 5)It is underground.
Enjoy your stay :)

this site will be good to read
http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting/touristinformation/gettingaround/publictransport.
at schiphol
Holland Tourist Information
020-201 8800
Monday - Sunday 07:00-22:00
Schiphol Airport, Arrivals 2
At Schiphol Plaza
Not sure if this is for the Holland card ( you need to give the coupon to the office to get a public transport card and not at the driver of tram bus)
Very important all public transport cards at the GVB are chipcards.
We you check in at the doors at the validators. when you check in you see a date, goede reis (good trip) or if you tranfer overstap.
When you check out you read tot ziens (goodbye) 1 beep and green means you checked in correct. 2 beeps red light it is wrong or finished.
So be sure you alway get a date checking in and tot ziens checking out.

Re: can anyone please advise Posted: Wed June 15, 2011 10:51 AM UTC
Just a warning
29 june there will be a public transport strike.
Will write this in Dutch for translation
Er word gestopt met rijden na de ochtendspits en daarna word alleen weer gereden in de avondspits. vervoer tijdens ochtend en avondspits gratis.
This means something like the times people normally go to work or to the houses from work again something like 7 to 9 and 17-19.
So just dont expect to have public transport in the cities Amsterdam The Hague and Rotterdam.
Trains will drive. As you say you will come end of june this can be important.

On the Schiphol airport you will find the company Great Amsterdam Excursions- they have shuttle busses which are going to bring you directly to the hotel. They also have a sight seeing tours after which they can bring you to the hotel.

Re: can anyone please advise Posted: Thu June 23, 2011 09:51 AM UTC
given the strike, trains will likely be busier than usual, and us never being there, we thing a return shuttle would be best and have more or less decided on it.
This means we can get straight to hotel and make as much of our time as possible given our visit is short .
I want to got to the floating flower market which from the looks of it could be quite a walk. .
many thanks for all advice . Hopefully next week I should have some lovely photos

<I want to got to the floating flower market which from the looks of it could be quite a walk.>
That can be done in half an hour: walk to the Leidseplein and the Leidsestraat.
(or via the Nieuwe Spiegelstraat starting opposite of the Rijksmuseum).
