Bangkok does have a Mueseum which was opened in 1874: they could probably help you with the knowledge you require.

I would recommend Museum Siam, which shows Thai, and Bangkok, history via interactive exhibitions housed in a vintage building which was once a Ministry of Commerce. See http://www.museumsiam.com

And the newly opened Nitas Rattanakorin on Ratchadamnoen Avenue, which shows the same things but more particular for Bangkok's stuff. See http://www.nitasrattanakosin.com

Both are located in the old town.

For that particular topic, the history of Bangkok, go to Nitas Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall near Democracy Monument, on Radamnoen Road.

Museum of Siam is quite good and has great exhibitions, but its focus is more on particularities of Thai culture (e.g., Thai movies, cultivation of rice).

Many thanks for the reply. Will be in Bangkok in a few weeks, so I'll definitely chack out the museum. I like knowing about the history of the city I'm visiting to understand the present.
