Tribal regions in the North

Has anyone experience in visiting the tribal areas ( apart from the oft visited sapa ) in the north of Vietnam? or contacted the Ethnology section in museums in Hanoi? Thank You..

I've been to some of the Montengard villages off of Highway 9 in Central Vietnam near the Laotian border. This group is located very near to that Cuban built Dakrong bridge ( I think that was the name).
