Lisbon honeymoon

Hello,

We finally decided to focus on visiting inland Portugal, so we plan to come to Lisbon late 16 August and back form Lisbon on 23 afternoon. Could you provide me with answers on following questions:

1. Is it more practical to accomodate in Lisbon centre and moving in and around using public transport or somewhere outside centre.

2. We would like to stay at Lisbon 3-4 days, 2 days at Sea on the beach and 1 day in Portugal? What to see, where to go?

I don't know if it might be to far away for you, but a trip to Porto is wonderful! Completely different from Lisboa...

If it weren't for the heat, I'd say a day trip (preferably by car) to Alentejo would certainly show you a different Portugal. Anyway, sometimes in August there's a couple of cooler days. Rent a car and drive to Évora and around Alqueva dam lake, to Monsaraz. You can spare two days instead, stay on a private tourist accomodation. I love the one near Amieira Marina, called Herdade do Sobroso. Not cheap, I tell you. But the place is gorgeous, the food is great. I just cannot confirm if the couple of resident storks are there during summer. If you are on honeymoon, I do reccomend it, though I prefer it in the winter, when the fireplaces are on...

While in Lisbon you can easily access several beaches by bus (Caparica to the south or Ericeira - cooler- to the northwest)or train (Estoril Coast to the west, from Cais do Sodré station), so you can base yourselves here. Transportation is frequent but top season, so go early.
Lisbon is pretty walkable, in spite of the hills. You can take trams to go up to the castle hill- 28- (beware of pickpockets at all times) or to Belem area -15E -, as well as buses. At Carris website you have printable pdfs of all bus and tram lines. There are also a couple of hop on hop off companies, Carris being one as well. It can be a good choice to travel around the must sees.
Have fun!

Makes all practical sense to stay and use Lisbon as your base to visit outlying near areas

Lisbon has got it all...plus being pretty close to the sea

Hi, my last trip to Lisbon was last year and found it more practical to stay in the center. Also, Avenida da Liberdade is also a very good location, and it's packed with hotels. On my previous trips I always stayed in hotels, but last time i found a wonderful appartment for rent, and it was the best decision. It is located very close to Rossio square, and metro stations are just minutes away by foot. Here is the link, i think it's worth checking out: http://www.lisbonapartments.com/apartments/duplex-mouraria/#photos
For the day trips, go to Sintra, Queluz, Cascais, Cabo de Roca, Obidos... There is so much to see around Lisbon, and it's well connected by trains.

Also, if you stay in Lisbon centre, Cascais is only 30min by train. So you can stay in Lisbon and go to the beach by train. Trains go from Cais do Sodre station and they go every 15-30min if i remember well. I'm suggesting this, cause maybe hotels in Cascais will be more expensive in august due to the season.

Have a great honeymoon :))

Lisbon airport is practicaly in the city. And taxis are very cheap, i paid less then 10 euros (i think 7 or 8) for a ride from the airport to the Rossio square last year.

Wladislav, there are suggestions made here on accommodation already for you

But I would also add/suggests you take time to look at VT member pages, including mine of course, for a wide-ranging list of accommodation in Lisboa.

If you want to receive the optimum pleasure and satisfaction from this memorable great city, you'd be wise to stay right in the center - that is the old part of Lisboa. Transport to anywhere within the city and beyond is so easy and accessible. Also, taking the AeroBus to city center from the airport is cheap (3.50 Euros, make sure to keep the tix with you which is good for all-day bus, funicular and tram rides for that day) practical and quick (20 minutes).

Email if you need further assistance and pointers on Lisboa
