China into Pakistan or the other way round?

I'm considering to cross the Kunjerab pass on the Karakorum highway around Mai 1st. Now the last big constaraint is the possible snow cover and pass closure.
Anyone knows some reliable sources where to enquire about the last few years, when the pass was repopened and what exactly are the criteria?

Some insight would be great, thanks.

As far as I know the road is open between June and October, we went in July so we never had to look up if is actualy true.

As for which way to go...I would do what ever is the most logical for you, cause it really doesn't matter in my opinion.

Last year the pass was closed by the political authorities until July due to the SARS epidemic in China, but it ususally opens between late April and Early June. There wasnt much snow this year so and judging by the fact that the lower passes opened up in late March this year, yeah the Khunjerab should be open by May. Otherwise you can fly to Urumqi from Islamabad.
