Blue Mountains National Park Daytrip from Sydney - what not to miss?
Posted: Wed January 28, 2004 08:01 PM UTC
Hi,

I'll be in Sydney in April for 5 days, and think about making a day-trip to the Blue Mountains (probably by public transport).

Can you tell me about where it's best to go for one day, and what I really shouldn't miss?

Many thanks!

Have a look at this website - you will be spoilt for choice!!!

http://www.galactic.net.au/bushwalking/parks/BlueMountains/park1.html

Basic thing if you are doing it for yourself is to take the train from Sydney to Katoomba (about 2.5 hours)There's a local hop-on, hop-off mini bus which takes you to the key local sites (Scenic Railway, Three Sisters rock formation etc) in the nearby vicinity. You could combine this with a fairly easy 'topside' walk along the cliffs to do a round-trip walk to Leura and catch train back to Sydney from there.

Enjoy - there's so much to see.
Be well
Keith

I agree with Keith, Katoomba is the spot. You'll find your day just isn't long enough.

1 or 2 stops before Katoomba on the train, you can check out Wentworth falls. There was not much water there when i went about a month ago,but the walk way around the falls is quite impressive. You have 3or 4 feet wide of walkway, carved into the cliff face, then a straight drop, not sure how far it was to the bottom, maybe 300 metres. If you dont like heights, give it a miss.

Hi,

A ferry trip to Manly or Watsons Bay is also well worth spending your day's time for relaxing, "swimming", sigthseeing, hiking/hill climbing etc. all at one go! When i was there i started my activity walking along the shorelines and ended by watching the sunset on top of the hill - spectacular! You can catch several ferries going to both places at Circular Quay! Enjoy your travel.

Hi. Yep Leffe's got the right idea. Katoomba's the place to go. Catch a fast train from Central station. At Katoomba the scenic railway goes at right angle down the mountain and after a short rainforest bush walk, you can catch the cable car back up with a lovely view of the 3 sisters. Check out my humble Blue Mountains page. You can also take a scenic ride on the harlies (bikes). There's lots of nice restaurants to have lunch. You can get off a Parramatta on the way back and get a bus down to the river to catch the River Cat back to Sydney harbour - a lovely river trip that goes past Homebush (where the commonwealth games were held). Sydney's a supurb tourist destination. Have fun!! Cheers, Ann :o)
