Peles and Bran castles
Posted: Sat April 23, 2011 09:19 PM UTC
I planned out an itinerary through Transylvania in June, and realized that these castles are closed on Monday. I was wondering how much of either castle I can still see (if it's just the outside of it from afar, or can I walk the grounds of it, just not inside, or would I not even be able to get close to the castles because all transportation to them stops, etc) without going inside. I wasn't planning on touring the interiors that much anyways. So for example, if I were to be in Sinaia, would I still be able to get to Peles Castle and marvel at it from outside, then enjoy the town? And is the same true for Bran Castle?

Lastly, is it easy to get from, say, the town to these castles? I assume it is, but haven't been able to find directions to get to the castle from for example the train station. Is it as simple as a road that a bus can take me through? Or do I need to hike some distance?

Thanks for any help!

Lovely castles and it is a particular pity (especially for Sinaia) if you can't see the interior.
I've been to Peles twice and in my memory you can walk the grounds since they check tickets inside the castle. I hope I'm not wrong.
A bit of a hike will be in order if there isn't a bus. However, I can't imagine there being not since both are tourist attractions.
Nice little market with local crafts near Bran castle.

You could probably explore a large part of the grounds at Peles Castle as the ticket booths are in an interior courtyard, as mentioned. Peles Castle is about twenty minutes uphill from Sinaia's town center. Bran Castle, on the other hand, had a ticket booth and gate at the entrance to the castle grounds, a hundred metres or so from the castle (with a forested park between the two). That being said I think there's an 80% chance I handed over my ticket at the gate, and a 20% chance I did it at the castle proper... so you might be able to see a bit of the exterior. Bran Castle is very close to the center of Bran. Busses from Brasov to Bran also pass really close to Rasnov fortress, though that's one with very little to see from outside. I did Peles, Bran and Rasnov as a day trip from Brasov through Kismet Dao Hostel... it's too bad you've got your heart set on doing this on a Monday as an cheap organized tour makes everything really easy!

Hello, as Jety said you can try a day tour.

In the season it is possible to find the castles open on Monday also. Try to get news form this sites: http://peles.ro/ and http://www.bran-castle.com/ro/

You can send them an email or better call them before visit and you can find their daily opening hours. Last year during summer season Peles Castle was open on Mondays with a short program (4 hours).

Hello there !!!
I Hope this can help:

http://www.romanianmonasteries.org/romania/peles-castle

Yes Peles castle is closed on monday, but i this you can take a walk around, it is beautiful sight and a beautiful Palace.

Is very easy to take a minibus form bucharest to sinaia and to sinai to Brasov and in Brasov you go by bus to Bran, and the bus stop is just a few meter for the castle Bran, of course you have to walk to the top of the hill, bur is a 20 minutes walking and the Castle is very very small.
I am new here, but i will try to male my Romania homepage as soon as i can,and i will publish a few picīs of my trip.
Best regards from Mexico .
