Restaurants in Torino.
Posted: Tue January 27, 2004 09:37 AM UTC
I'm going to Torino, again, in early march. I'm looking for those special restaurants that natives and travellers love and go back to.

I have some favourites of my own but I would love to get further reccommendations.

My favourites are.

Taverna dei Guitti

Mon Ami

Ignazio.

I also like Del Cambio and Cucco but I don't fancy going to either of those alone.

I've been to Torino 4 times and each time Tre Galline was closed, but I might get to try it this time.

Anyone got any more ideas?

Not sure what your cuisine preferences are, but you ought to check the Slow Food movement's site (www.slowfood.com) for recommendations. They will have a list of local restaurants known for their use of fresh products and who's cuisine represents the best of regional cooking. Since they are headquartered near Torino in the city of Bra, they are quite an authority on the area. Good luck.

Tre Galline is my best favourite. It's closed on Sundays and on Mondays for lunch (+39 011 4366553).

Similar ones are: Trattoria Valenza (Via Borgo Dora 39 - +39 011 5213914) and "Saletta" (Via Belfiore - +39 011 6687867). All of them have limited places so you'd better book in advance.

I liked Free Volo. Outstanding local food, sassy waitresses, a jolly owner happy to advise about regional wines, and an interesting crowd.

Thank you! I can't focus it... anyway, if you happen to decide to go there, you'd better ask for the fukll name of the place "Emmanuele Filiberto", because nodoby would be able to trace it as simply "Filiberto". It is a double name of a member of the ancient royal family: as they were original from Torino, there are still lots of reference to them here.

Here is a brief list (I'm from Torino indeed!):

"Mamma Licia": typical piedmont's food (address: Via Mazzini), easy-going atmosphere; about 30€ (wine included)

"Il Ciacolon": Venice's cousine (address: Strada Cavoretto), charming and cosy, waiters dressed up with regional clothes; about 35€ with wine

"La Suite": brand new, it's a fancy restaurant, italian and international cousine (address: Via Della Rocca): about 40 up to 50€

"Gennaro Esposito": pizzeria, one of the best pizza you can find here, it's impossible to reserve a table, I suggest you to arrive there early (around 19,30 p.m.) - (address: Corso Duca degli Abruzzi 13): about 20€

Certainly "Il Cambio" e "Le tre galline" are the top choice, but these I have suggested to you are "off the beaten path". If you are looking for something particular or want to know more please ask me again and I'll be pleased to help you.

Ciao!

Daniele

Daniele,

Cerea!

HI!
In early March it will open in Turin a new pizzeria/restaurant very close to the "3 galline"...It's in Via 3 galline at the corner with Piazza della Repubblica. The name of the pizzeria is " Le rondini" and it's speciality is pizza napoletana and the great italian rice.
Maybe you can try that one, if you want, the place is very nice.
Have a nice journey!

I lived in Turin 12 years ago and remember I loved Mama Licia in Via Mazzini.
But, 12 years is quite some time and I wonder - is it still as good as it was?
I'm celebrating my 40th birthday, bringing my husband and 18 months old baby boy + friends; should we give Mama Licia a "go" or does anyone have another suggestion? (Child-friendly place is important!)

Hi there! I went to Mama Licia last week and it's still a great place where to eat and not expensive at all (25€ /person). the place is often crowded and tiny as it was years ago so you'd better to book in advance (especially during the w-e). If I remeber right they don't accept big group but I'm not sure about it, so...let's try!

the telephone number is: 0039 011 888943 (they are closed on Sunday and open just for dinner).
Address: Via Mazzini, 50 - Torino

if you need more info please don't hesitate and write to me.

take care
