Paris by Night--Rooftop view
Posted: Mon January 10, 2011 01:06 AM UTC
We are staying at the Sublim Hotel just west of Montparnasse in April. Got our daytime schedule set for sights, however I would like to take my mother to a cafe or restaurant just after the sun dips below the horizon, for a rooftop view of Paris when the city lights up. Something with the Eiffel in view in the distance? Can someone suggest a rooftop place or two that would fit the bill? Not expensive, but nice and cosy. Decent menu (doesn't have to be great, it's really the view that counts, so we can stare out across the city). Merci!

Assuming when you say "Sublim Hotel" you mean Sublim Eiffel
http://www.sublimeiffel.com/
in the 15th over by metro Sevres-Lecourbe?

If that's your hotel, one of the best views in Paris at night is from Tour Montparnasse, which is approx a 20-minute - ~ 1.4km walk from your hotel Southeast down Blvd Pasteur.

There is a decent cafe on the top (56th) floor Le 360 Cafe
http://www.tourmontparnasse56.com/#/visite/restauration

where you can have a drink(s) and a sandwich, salad, inexpensive (for Paris) meal while you get to enjoy the best nightime view in all of Paris. Check the link (above) out.

If the weather is nice (April should be ok) you can walk up another floor to the rooftop outside as well.

The only catch is that tickets for the elevator are 11 EU ($14 CA) per person to get up there, - and I know you said "not expensive"

but I can guarantee it is a (weather permitting) once-in-a-lifetime experience neither of you will ever forget.

Some passes like this one
http://www.parispass.com/prices.asp
include Tour Montparnasse as well as a Seine cruise and some museums so you might want to check that out also if you're into inclusive passes (I think they cost too much)

If I can think of somewhere free near your area I'll post it later, and hopefully someone else here can suggest a less expensive rooftop alternative with a decent view.

To me though, Tour Montparnasse at night with the view of Tour Eiffel and all the rest of Paris when the lights come up after dark
(again - weather permitting)
is worth the 11-EU each to get up there.

The cheapest solution would be to grab some picnic-style sandwiches and maybe a bottle of Brouilly and stroll the other direction about 1km to the Champ de Mars facing of the Eiffel tower and just picnic on a bench there.

Hope this helps - Bon chance.

There is the Café de l'Homme, just in front the Eiffel Tour. Great view!!
Or le Georges on top of the museum Pompidou. Amazing view on the roofs of Paris.
