Hey,in about two weeks time,I'll be going to Harbin with my family but I have no idea how many sweater should I bring for that 10 days trip.I heard that it's important to get lip balm,so what kind of lip balm is suitable for harbin? Also,is it okay to wear contact lens during the trip?? Lastly, any tips on what's the full attire to wear? I hope to receive replies as soon as possible and thank you in advance!:D

Hi, Harbin is further north in the country, so the temperatures by 3rd week of December will be low for sure!

Rather than thinking about number of sweaters, focus on wearing layers, thus providing far better insulation & warm. Even if they are thin clothes, it will be okay, though you could wear a sweater just under an outer waterproof ski-style jacket.

Under the sweater (ideally have a fleece in place of the sweater!!) try to wear synthetic fibres like polyester, nylon, etc as these wil not absorb any sweat, but let it roll down instead. If the undergarments are natural fibres (like cotton), they will absorb moisture, thus keeping you cooler!!

Use regular lip balms as available in the US. Wearing contacts will be fine, though do carry your rehydration fluids with you!

Have a fun & safe trip ;-)

The climate is cold, yes, but the kicker is the low humidity and wind - it's dry. Exposed skin will dry out and crack, hence the lip balm. Along this line a hand lotion is also necessary. Drink warm citrus drinks!

Cold -yes it is -the temperatures for the next few days are
Friday -7°C to -19°C
Saturday -12°C to -25°C
Sunday -16°C to -30°C

That's thermal underwear territory/heavy jacket weather to me but yes you still need the lip gloss. Your contacts shouldn't be a problem as your eye is warm enough and when out they are in saline I expect.

Ask any salesgirl here to sell you clothings for -20C and below & the truth answer will be no. Normally what they sell here is for average temp. around zero degrees like going to UK.Mostly all tours usually for 1 night there whilst your body is still warm.Don't bring any summer clothes only all woollen. Wear 2 cashmere sweaters direct to your body, then longjohn. Best to buy winter clothes there.Use pullover sweaters that covers your neck. The most exposed parts of your body to cold will be your face, neck & hands. I have been to Harbin 4 times each lasting at least 2 weeks around Chinese New Year which is the coldest time of the year where temperatures can go down to below -30C

Ah, Do buy a woolly hat that covers your ears, as that part of the head is very sensitive to the severe cold, creating a burning sensation if exposed!!
