side trip from taipei?

hey vt'ers,
if you were in taipei, and you could take a side trip, where would it be? the airline flights are cheap and about the same price to either manila or bangkok and other s.e. asian cities. what would be the most cost effective and what you would want to see and why? i have a month (only)

do you want to get out of Taiwan or travel in Taiwan? You can travel slowly there and explore around. Last time I was there, I spent 10 days in Taipei and nearby, and also to Taroko Gorge...and I felt that it was rush for me. Should have spent longer time in Taroko Gorge.

There is an international flower expo in Taipei opening soon for 6 months. You should definitely check it out.

i just decided to stay in taiwan instead of hopping countries. there's not enough time and i don't want to be rushed.

there is a couple of interesting islands that belong to Taiwan but much closer to mainland China, may be you can also have a look too.
