Beirut Airport

Will be ariving Beirut next week at around 22:00 hrs. Are there shuttle buses from the airport? How honest are the taxi meters in Beirut? I'll be staying around Hamra, so how much would the approx fare be from airport to Hamra?

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome :)
There are no shuttle buses from airport. I asked for the rate with a taxi company and it is around 14 USD for Hamra (another company offered a rate of 18 USD). The cars which have taxi sign without any taxi company name on them might offer a higher or lower rate which you can bargain. The taxi companies (Geant Taxi or Geryes Taxi or Allo Taxi or Taxi premiere or whatever its name is: usually written on the glass or on the car itself) have a fixed rate so no need to bargain. You can book your transfer before arrival if you prefer.

Thanks very much! I gather Beiruti taxis accept US dollars. What about euro? Would I be better off if I pay in Lebanese money?

Most of them accept US dollars, the companies will accept them for sure. Euro is not used here so they might not accept it.

Hi, I ve just back from Beyrout, Lebanon.
I am an Egyptian physician, spent their about five days.
My Taxi experience:
Any travel inside Beyrout will cost you 15.000 lebanese lire "10 dollars" If u ll take it privately....If with other people, they called it "Service car" and u ll pay only 4,000 lebanese lire "2.7 dollars"...regarding that the same car may work as a private taxi or a " service car" upon ur request...But some higher models of taxi like "mercedes E 200" or "Lexus or Jaguar" refuse to work as a "service car"......
I ve known a very good and honest taxi driver "Mercedes C180" who accompanied me all through my visit...Every morning, at 9.00 am, he was taking me to different places and returning me at the crowne plaze hotel in elHamra at 7.00 pm "For only 100 dollars"...."by the way, the hotel taxi offered the same for 175 dollars".....I got the taxi-driver cellular number, if u want to get it just e-mail me at dr_ayman78@yahoo.com, thanks.
