School trip to Paris

I am taking a group of 40 pupils ( 13-14 years old) to Paris for 2 days in June 2011. What are the best places not to miss.
Thanks

From a UK teacher's perspective...the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, maybe Sacre Coeur and Montmartre, the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Elysees and a river trip (if you can fund it). That is what the kids will expect/want to see.

To that you might add the Louvre (if you think they will appreciate it enough to make it worthwhile), the Pompidou Centre perhaps and the catacombs (which they will love, if you can arrange it) and maybe the tour of the sewers (which they will also love, if it can be arranged).

Notre Dame Cathedral (note gargoyles, climb up if you can)
Eiffel Tower (long wait to climb; perhaps just look and take photos)
Rodin Museum and garden and Invalides with Napoleon's Tomb (nearby)
a picnic in the Tuileries or Luxembourg Gardens
Musée d’Orsay if you can arrange it
Walk through the Louvre courtyard and look at the Pyramid

Not so famous but for 13-year-olds visit the Cité des Sciences at the Parc de la Villette. It’s the largest technical and scientific museum in Europe with lots of interactive exhibits. The famous Géode, a theater with a 180-degree screen would be fun too. There is also a Musée de la Musique in the same park with more interactive exhibits. You could turn them loose in the park for a while too. The complex would be a fabulous day.

You have lots of choice, but don't try to cram in too much. Allow ample time for getting from one place to another. Herding any group takes longer than just moving around independently or as a family and 13/14 year-olds are simply not as biddable as younger students. This especially applies if you intend to use public transport rather than just feet or your own coach.

I put on my 14 year old mentality hat on....so Crazy Horse is right out eh? So a distant 2nd would be the fountain at Place Stravinski by the Pompideau. 3rd, the Rodin Museum with the sculpture of the Thinker in the gardens.. Friday nights there is the skating/bicycling through Paris....I like the suggestion on the Catacombs.... maybe the cool gravesites at Pere Lachaise, e.g. Morrison..bon chance mon ami.... Karl

Yes, Pere Lachaise might be good...but they won't know of Morisson I'm afraid. :-(

If it was me, I'd just visit the places of which they will have heard the most and for added interest, try for a catacombs tour. I know from experience that simplicity and ease of organisation are the keys to successful school visits. Just being away from home with your mates is exciting enough!

At least in June there will be evening daylight, so no need to worry quite so much about what to do with 40 13/14 year olds at that time of day!

Summer is a perfect time to visit and have lunch in the parks
Examples:
Buttes Chaumont + Quay Valmy
Jardin de Bagatelle
Luxembourg Garden + St Michel Quarter
Vincennes + castle
Bois de Boulogne
