I'm interested in staying in a town there, with access to the town life, without being overcome by noise. Can anyone suggest a place to stay there? A small inn would be nice. Thanks

I'd recommend Riomaggiore for a Cinque Terre town without much noise - there are any number of apertment rental services there. You can have your own place in a residential area where you won't experience the same influx of tourists as a hotel.
Check out my Riomoaggiore page for some more info - it was my favorite town in the Cinque Terre. Vernazza is beautiful as well, though. Carrie

We all have our favorites, i am sure.... I prefer Corniglia for quiet, and Monterosso for social....
In Corniglia, we stayed above the enoteca of Mario and he was very helpful about recommending restaurants and guiding us to what we should see (0187 812315). The tourist office can help arrange non-hotel type housing in all the villages. http://www.cinqueterre.it/en/ct2.html
