Reno Train Ride from Reno to Sacramento
Posted: Sat January 10, 2004 03:11 PM UTC
Hi All,
A friend and I were talking last night about how beautiful the snow is in the mountains of Ca. He wants to fly from Nashville to Reno, then take a train ride from Reno down to Sacramento and return.
Does anyone have any info about the trains in Reno, or know anything about a trip like this?
Thanks
Jan in Nashville

Hi Jan,

Amtrak stops in Reno on it's way to/from Sacramento/Chicago. Go to their website for more information: http://www.amtrak.com/pdf/routeguidecazephyr.pdf

Hiya... I LOVE Reno, one of my all time fave cities. That would be a wonderful trip over Donner Pass. Go for it!

A word of warning -Because Amtrack shares the rail with freight trains, and the freight trains have the right of way, the west bound Amtrack trains are rarely on time. My experience has been that they run 2 to 3 hours late. The Reno station is downtown so there is lots to keep you occupied while you wait but it can be a problem if you are running on a tight schedule. I don't know if this is also a problem on the east bound train as I've only picked up and dropped off friends traveling west.

I haven't made the journey by train myself but I have been told by many friends and aquaintances that it is absolutely fabulous.
