Dar es Salaam ATMs in Tanzania? Tarzara railway?

Hi friends,

1. Anyone know about ATMs in Tanzania? I've been travelling for a long time and am out of cash (I'm in South Africa right now). I don't know if I should get a bunch of money out here in South Africa and carry it up there (big worry) or can I just take out money there?

2. Is the Tarzara railway from Zambia to Dar Es Salaam Tanzania still running? I'm looking into how I'm going to travel overland from Capt Town to Dar Es Salaam.

I travelled from Jo'Berg to Dar then on to Uganda 3 years ago.

I when to Gaborone (Botswana) then by train to Fransis town and bus up to the Zambia boarder then up to Lusaka then to Capiri Mposhi then caught the train to Dar. It was very easy (but missed the TAZARA train and had to over take it in a speeding mimibus to get on it), and a good trip you could do it very comfortably in 2 weeks.

ATMS in Tanzania -
There are lots of ATMs in Dar and Arusha. Moshi has one on Aga Khan road and the only one in Zanzibar is in the airport arrival lounge.

* ATM: I know only one ATM you can use with a Visa in Dar, but it always worked with me & friends: Barclays Bank, Ohio Street (in front of Royal Palm)

*Tazara: 2 international trains a week, one faster than the other, but what does "fast" mean on a 1m20 chinese track???

Plenty of ATMs no need to carry a lot of hard cash, on the other hand TAZARA railway stiil operating from Zambia-Tanzania. Definitely you'll have fun if you stick in not carrying money.
