I have a friend from the flatlands of Southeast Colorado and she wants to see "rocky craig-ilyplaces".

If I tell her Maine. . . Where do I tell her to go?

i would suggest bar barbor & acadia national park. i went there when i was in middle school on a family trip but i can still remember it vividly. the sights are amazing (& there are rocky formations there)!

I second the Bar Harbor idea. (See my page for photos.) There are other, less crowded places in Maine all along the coast though. I'm sure there are plenty of equally beautiful spots. Bar Harbor can be pretty crowded and expensive.

Bah Habah foah shuah! That's Maine talk in case you don't understand for Bar Harbor for sure!! LOL There are lot's of great smaller out of the way towns and villages all over the coast of Maine. She won't be dissapointed even if she makes a wrong turn and ends up somewhere else! The whole coast of Maine is beautiful! Camden is a great town too.I grew up in Maine and don't get back enough!

If you want to do something REALLY great..see the rocky beaches and sail the coast of Maine...Take a Windjammer Cruise!

What an incredible vacation! We went aboard the Lewis R. French. We chose it because it was the oldest, Wooden vessel in the group. It was a unique and wonderful vacation (we were a couple...this is a no kids allowed cruising vessel) Great week, beautiful scenery and we got to sail.

The windjammers leave from Camden. You stay overnight on the boat and sail in the morning. There is secure parking for your car too.

As I am from the State of Maine I can tell you that the entire coast is rocky and it is beautiful. Bar Harbor is nice but it is extremely crowded in the summer. If she wants to go to a place that is a little out of the way and rugged she should head east. There is a little town called Lubec where the Quoddy Head Lighthouse and Park are located. Another pretty place between Ellsworth and Lubec is Schoodic Point. It is actually a part of Acadia National Park but is located in Winter Harbor instead of Bar Harbor. One more place that she will see some beautiful scenery is the
Deer Isle/Stonington area-where she can also enjoy some of the best lobster in the world-right off the boat!! A great place to eat is in Little Deer Isle and it is called Eaton's Lobster Pool. Good luck to your friend-although she should have no problem looking for rocky places in Maine. :)
