Most Popular Tour/Activity in Barbados?
Posted: Fri July 16, 2010 07:27 PM UTC
What is the most popular tour, activity, or thing to do in Barbados? What is the "must do, and not to miss" if anything? We will be arriving via cruise ship for a day, and looking for options. Thank you.

This depends on your interests and how long your day is. Barbados is very accessible via public transport.

Please feel free to check out my Barbados page and its associated pages on things to do around the island and information on the public transport options.

Have a great visit!

You can swim with turtles (without a tour) at Folkstone Beach. See the caves. Have a taxi take you around the island, As said above, a 'must see' is in the eyes of the beholder.

One thing I can recommend you NOT do is walk around downtown looking for shops or quaint things to see. Besides the old Parliament building and maybe the old synagogue there's not anything very touristy, it's just full of stores used by locals.

We greatly enjoyed the "Rhino Rider" tour off our ship.

I can advise you, as someone who's been there a few times on cruises, NOT to go for the 4x4 drive!

The 'zoo' is small.
The wild monkeys were all having a siesta way up in the trees!
Worst of all was the lengthy lecture about safety in the 4x4 vehicles only for my sear belt to break after about 20 minutes! The driver carried on regardless whilst I was thrown around like a puppy in a washing machine!
To make matters worse, the other 4x4 broke down and we had to stop for an hour whilst it was fixed!

Needless to say, there was a compensation from Princess!

I hope that this helps!

It really does depend on your interest. If you're not an outdoor person that the 4x4 drive isn't a good option. However if you do like the outdoors and looking to enjoy Barbados, scenery, a bit of history, tast bajan food, have rum punch and swim off a west coast beach there are great Island Safari combination land and sea tours either half day tours or whole day tours depending on your preferen.

There are 2 main 4x4 out door tours in Barbados one is Adventure Land, the other is Island Safari, the later ( Island Safari is great! And has a reputation with visitors and travel agents alike for customer service and good fun.) There is aa website that offers brochure of the various tours they offer land or sea or both.

a day makes it somewhat difficult- i might go to oisten's bay for the local flavor of barbados and a great dinner cooked on the big grills with the fresh catch of the day - make sure to have a 'banks' beer.
