Ideal area to find accommodations
Posted: Wed June 9, 2010 04:50 AM UTC
I'm planning on visiting the island in late July 2011. I'm hoping to catch some Cropover festivities. Where's a good central place to stay? I was considering staying in the Christ Church/southern portion of the island. Does that make sense?

Also, I'd like to get around and I'm considering renting a car.

Christ Church is indeed a good location with Accra Beach close by. There are also jitneys that will take you to wherever you want for a reasonable price - oistens bay for fresh fish is a must. enjoy this beautiful place with some of teh friendliest people in the world!

i wanted to add that the island was once british controlled, so driving is on the left side of the road. it is not as easily done. i think that between the taxis and the jitney it would be more prudent than renting - the island is only 14 miles wide, and to see the other parts - the pacific side, the rain forest, and go to bridgetown can be done by safari - if you need some additional info - i know the name and number of a taxi driver in christ church who will take good care of you- i also can get info on the safari and we did a day where we went on the tall ships - can snorkel, sun bath etc- let me know.

To take in crop over the south coast and the west coast ( fitts village st.James is good) For lots of space and reasonable rates and a few minutes walk to the beach and supermarket plus great view, stay at Villa Marie... one of the best bargains for a villa on the west coast. You'll feel the festivity of crop over there with costumes hung on some of the walls. Just google villa marie , st. james Barbados.

Hope you enjoy your stay
