Seeking opinions on Termas near Santiago
Posted: Mon May 17, 2010 09:29 PM UTC
Hi, My family is considering spending a weekend at one of the Termas near Santiago and was wondering if any VT'rs have been to any of them and what they thought of them. We are probably not in the market for the expensive ones (like Jahuel). I was wondering about Baños Colina in Cajon de Maipo and maybe renting a cabin somewhere but not sure about accessibility at this time of year. We will be travelling with young children and a baby.

Thanks,
Rhianon

We 'only' have been to Banos Morales (also in the Cajon del Maipo). I have to say it was quite an adventure driving the last part in the valeey on unpaved steep road crossing streams. Knowing Banos Colina is still a lot further and higher in the mountains .....
It was nice to visit the 'banos', but we were not impressed of the three pools, almost without any amenities.

See for more information about the drive/Banos Morales and some pics:

Happy travels

I would not go to the Baños Colina with small children. It is a long drive out there. Why not considder something like this:

It is about 4 hours by car from Santiago and not far from lovely La Serena.

Try Baños del Corazon near from Los Andes city, look in the web. Termas de Socos is a good choice too, near from Tongoy

I prefer Baños El Corazon to Jahuel. It is family owned and run and has a friendly atmosphere. The food is very good too. It is not cheap, but less than Jahuel. There are also things to do in the area of San Esteban. We have stayed there three times.
I am not very fond of Socos. I find it gloomy. We stayed once.
Other options might be Quinamavida or the somewhat nicer Panimavida south of Santiago near Linares. They are both full pension included. However it will take about three hours to get to them.

There is also the Termas de Colina, not the ones up the Cajón del Maipo which are really the Baños de Colina, but near the town of Colina.

Hi all,

Thanks for your suggestions. I am not afraid of the drive up the Cajon, in fact we do it quite regularly. We just haven´t been to Baños Colina up there. Hence my question. I have been to Baños Morales and agree they were not great. The water was relatively cold too so definitely not looking at doing that again.

I have been to Quinamavida and liked it but we are not looking to go so far from Santiago so we are probably left with Termas del Corazon or Termas Colina. Thanks for the feedback on experiences at Termas del Corazon. Interesting that you found it better than Jahuel too.

Have any of you been to Termas Colina in Colina? Did you like it?
I have checked out websites of all but am looking for travellers recommendations based on personal experience of a place.

Cheers,
Rhianon

We have had lunch there but not stayed. We have used the pool too. It offers a simple sort of home cooking menu. The Termas are actually on army land (or was it air force - anyway, military) and I think it used to be a sort of officer's retreat. It has the outdoor pool and then some small spa rooms with thermal baths. I have not seen the rooms so I don't know what they are like. Termas El Corazon has a large outdoor pool and an indoor one. If there is not much difference in price, Corazon is nicer and has the advantage of the indoor pool. I got the prices from Colina last year but I cannot find the paper. Typical.
Hope that helps a little bit more.
