How to avoid bridges and ramps when driving to Baltimore from Rockville, Maryland
Posted: Sun May 9, 2010 01:17 PM UTC
Is there a way I can drive by car to Baltimore (particularly Baltimore Convention Center) from Rockville, Maryland and avoid bridges and ramps? I have a fear of bridges and ramps, and I understand there is a longer round-about way to get to Baltimore and avoid ramps and bridges? I currently take a taxi, and that has gotten too expensive and prefer to drive myself. Thank you.

I am assuming that you mean going OVER a bridge and not going UNDER one?? You can certainly take surface roads and avoid overpasses.

You could also take public transportation. There is a MARC train from Rockville to D.C. (or a taxi) and then train to Baltimore. From there the 11 bus (or a taxi) will take you to the Convention Center.

If you want to drive, I suggest Veirs Mill Road to Maryland Rte 28 (Norbeck Rd) Keep on Rte 128. You will have to go over I-95, but it's not a scary bridge. Turn north on US 1. You will go over MD 100, and under I95 and I195 and I95 again and I695. Follow US 1 all the way to Fulton St. Left on Fulton and right on Pratt and there you are. This is 38 miles and will take about a hour and a half.
