Last minute weekend trip
Posted: Wed April 14, 2010 02:14 PM UTC
Hello -

I'm going to NYC this weekend to see the Tim Burton exhibit before it's gone (I just bought a MOMA membership since the timed tix were sold out, so I'm set there). I will really only have one full day in the city, and will probably spend much of it at the museuam. Just wondering if anyone has suggestions for evening play or performance to catch Saturday night, something off the beaten path?

BTW, if anyone's available for a VT dinner meet-up Saturday, I've got nothing planned.

Thanks,
Emile

It's hard to recommend a play without knowing your taste. Also, the top shows sell way in advance, so it's tough to walk in on a Saturday night. On the other hand, it's often easier to get a single ticket. Here's a link to playbill.com's info page on Standing Room, Rush and Lottery tickets:

If you're looking for the offbeat, try and get in to see Christopher Walken in "A Behanding in Spokane." While it's not Martin McDonagh's best play, it's quirky, and Walken is perfect.

I just love the current revival of "Hair." Other shows that have good buzz are "Fela," "Red," "In the Heights." Lincoln Center's revival of "South Pacific" is glorious, but might be too "girly."

Thank your for replying. I would have liked to have seen Christopher Walken. Since the time I posted though, I found tix were available for the "American Idiot" previews so I'm doing that Saturday night.

So I'm still available for an early dinner around the Broadway area if anyone wants to meet up.

Thanks again!
