Omega or Taxi, or you can switch to a airport hotel the night before you leave. Many options and yur choice. I stay at he airport if you are concern.

The El/CTA is, in my opinion, perfectly safe. There are always cops around, especially late at night. But, of course, I'm male and, you being female and, apparently, alone, I can understand the concern. Would it be possible for your cousin to come with you?
A taxi would be a lot cheaper than an O'Hare hotel and not a whole lot more than the shuttle. I think that's your best option.

If you can get yourself to the Blue Line, it operates 24hrs per day. There are always plenty of passengers on this train since the airport employees, airline staff and travelers are coming and going constantly. It is completely safe at all hours.

Thanks everyone for replying. A friend gave me links for the following limo services that will do door-to-door pick up from the South Side to the airport:
http://www.chicagolimo.com/chicago_limo_rates.htm
http://www.bayareashuttles.net/airport_shuttle_chicago_ord.htm
http://www.chicagolimobus.com/chicago_limo_rates.htm
So far I've gotten quotes of $48-50, which is a bit steep, but reasonable for a 1 person limo ride, I think.

Those prices are in line with what I pay when I take corporate rate rides. If it will not break the bank, its definitely a more direct and convenient option.

You will not get anything cheaper from the southside to O'Hare and don't forget to tip at least 10% above that.

I wouldn't ride the CTA at that time of the morning from the southside. From downtown, maybe, but not from the southside. Nor would I rely on an airport shuttle, I have a friend who had a problem with one of them not picking him up and he missed his flight (I think it was Omega). From downtown you have more options if they don't show up (taxis, el, etc) but from the southside you don't as there isn't much taxi traffic. Go with the limo, those are reasonbable prices for a private car, or do as someone suggested and get a cheap hotel near the airport for the night before.

Hey, everyone -
Wanted to let you know that my relatives found an even better deal. I took Coach USA from the 127th Street depot in Crestwood to O'Hare. They leave 50 min after each hour from 3:30am-7:50pm and again at 9:50pm (the one I took). It was only $21 one way.
As an aside, I also discovered they provide cots, pillows and blankets at O'Hare for overnight visitors in Terminal 3, Gate K1 from 9pm to 4am.
Thanks again for the tips.
Emile

Glad you found something, I hadn't even thought of the bus since it services the suburbs (Crestwood, Highland, IN and several other cities in Indiana) and not the city. It's not an option for folks staying in the city center

I would suggest another limo company, their website is:
http://www.elitechicagolimo.com
For a sedan from Chicago to O'Hare they charge 55bucks and their cars are very nice.

I did say thanks for the advice, but since this is a new person to VT they might not understand that some of these questions have occurred over time. They might want to consider putting them into a tip where there is a chance that someone coming to Chicago will read them.
