Hi !

Have a look on :

www.bahn.de
The train will go to Fuessen and a bus will take you to Hohenschwangau.
From there you may visit 2 castles :
1)Hohenschwangau - less famous, less touristy & more interesting, as it was used as a royal castle for a long time

2) Neuschwanstein - very famous, beautiful etc, BUT a lot of stress getting in, less to see than in the other castle...

See them both & make up your mind !!!

Have a look on my pages about both castles for more infos and pics...

good luck !
Michael

Schloss Neuschwanstein Munich to Fussen and visit to Neuschwanstein castle

Munich to Fussen are indeed your point A and point B in this trip. Would mention that trains going in this direction do tend to stop in many little villages along the way, so they are not the fastest. You should also consider a tour bus, or just a plain bus ride. Considering the cost and the great attractions in that area, renting a car from the Munich train station is another possibility, and that would afford you the opportunity to stop at some great places along the way, like Oberammergau, Ettal, and Garmisch. And all in one day.

We took a train from Munich to Fussen...it took around 2 hours. Once we got to Fussen we caught a bus out to Neuschwanstein... It was very easy to get out there and we didn't have any problems.

Once you're there make sure you do a tour inside the castle...it's amazing!! :) We took a horse & cart ride up to the castle then walked down the hill on our way back to the bus. Just don't forget to get tickets for a castle tour BEFORE you go to the top of the hill. ;)

I hope you get good weather when you're there...we had a cloudy day and couldn't see the amazing scenery in the background...but the castle was still amazing, just like I had hoped. It was the place I most wanted to visit in Europe. ;)

Good luck and have fun!!!
