Re: Any Questions? Posted: Fri January 30, 2004 03:22 PM UTC
We are planning on traveling to Anguilla in either late May or early June (most likely it will be early June). Although we will visit several beaches while we're there, we would like to choose a hotel with a beach that has very calm water. Can you recommend what beaches/water is the most calm during that time of year and what hotels are on that beach?
Thank you for your time.

Its a sure bet that any of the beaches would be quite calm as a matter of fact that is the case all year round. Most of the hotels are located on prime beaches so you should not have that problem. What do you consider to be rough

Re: price in Anguilla Posted: Wed February 11, 2004 03:55 AM UTC
The cost of living is relatively high when compared to income. 1quart of whole milk you can get for $5 US, but then milk like most other products are imported from the US. It is very difficult to gt work permits government policy is always to give preference to locals and there has been a halt to the issueing of work permits. Apartment prices for a place that is nice with amenities included for 2-3 bedroom can range anywhere from 500 - 900 USD.

Anguilla is relatively expensive compared to many of the other caribbean islands. It all depends how you expect to live. the largest part of your budget you will find to be accomodation..

I am planning to go to Anguilla this september and I noticed that most of the resorts are closed on that date. I was told that CuisinArt is open... However anybody knows another resort/hotel which is open...? and restaurants.... are closed or open? The reason is because of the storms...? Is it safe on going in sept.? Thanks in advane.

Hello,
This is so kind of you to help those of us who are planning on visiting Anguilla! My question is related to lodging..I have read som recent unfavorable posts on trip advisor about Cap Juluca (overrated, run down, etc.) Is there ant truth to these rumors? We were considering a stay in May for our 25th anniversary. Also which hotel would you reccommend between Cap, Malouihana (sp?) and Cuisinart? One more thing, which beach is the nicest, in terms of crowding and relaxing?
Many thanks,
jane

Sorry for taking such a long time to respond. While Cap Juluca maybe one of the older hotels on the island, they have done quite a bit of work, such as the addition of a new Spa etc. and the service there is unrivalled. Where you stay, again depends on what you ared looking any of those hotels you will no doubt enjoy. All of them sit on fabulous beaches, even though Meads Bay is one of my pertsonal favourites (It being such a large beach with not too many bathers). If you can tell me exactly what you are looking for it is a simple thing to do some research and recommend a place.
To the question of beaches, None of the beaches in Anguilla are crowded in the true sense of the word. Even Shoal Bay which is one of the busiest, once you move away from the main stretch, around Uncle Ernies to Elodias there you hardly see anyone except for the occasional beach walker. It is a great though as you can rent umbrellas and chairs and they offer a different services at the beach including snorkelling gear rental, scuba, dining etc. Rendezvous is another great spot and the Dune at the far end of the beach is a good spot to relax and just have a drink. While Sandy Ground is not the best for swiming it is a great spot for lunch or dinner at one of the many Restaurants such as Roys, Johnnos or the Pumphouse.
Any other Specific questions

You have the several primary schools on the island that cater for that age. 6 which are public and 2 private. One of the private schools is affiliated witht he Baptist church and the other is the Omolulu International institute. The are all regulated by the Department of Education. I can't comment much though on the quality of education.

Thanks very much for your offer of help! We will be in Anguilla in late May for only a day (coming from St. Martin). Can you offer any advice on local food, best beaches & shopping?

For a one day stop. Shoal Bay East is the best bet. Great beach, several restaurants and snorkelling, scuba etc. That would be the best way to maximise your time since you would get in like 9-10 and leave about 5-6.

Re: Any Questions? Posted: Sat November 15, 2008 06:24 PM UTC
I wish to live at least 6 months of the year in Anguilla.
What are the things I should do or know before making the move.
From what I have already read about Anguilla. It looks like the place for me.
I visited quite a few places in the world , but Anguilla seems to me to be my next and last destination. I live very cheaply and spend little on myself.
I may be in the market to buy a small house near the centre of the Island or even rent a small plot of land to build my small house and garden. Maybe even rent out a room with some locals.
I will see about all of this when I get there. Thank you
Give any info you have and or give me your honest and sincere opinion. LEO BRU
