Parma local cheese dealer
Posted: Sun December 14, 2003 03:00 PM UTC
Hi,
during our holidays in Italy me and my parents loved the Italian Parmesan-cheese (not the plastic-packed one from the supermarket, but the huge pieces of a kilogram or so that they sell in small-corner-cheese-shops). Now I had the idea to import one of these pieces and give it to my parents as a christmas present. But where can I buy it without going to Italy? Does anyone know an eMail-adress of one of those small-corner-shops in Parma or somewhere else in Italy?
regards

The best is known as Parmagiano (or Parmigiano) Reggiano, and it is easily found in good cheese shops and specialty food stores all over the world. The chances are good that you will be able to find it near you without having to bother with having it sent to you from Parma.

MMmmmmm i can't belive you cannot find parmigiano in any deli shop in Hamburg...
It will be expencive, maybe, but with no delivery fee on it...

just to learn to know it is real parmigiano reggiano, take a look at this page:

Not necessarily the quality of Parmigiano sold in small cheese shops is better than the plastick-packed in supermarket.
There are also great parmigiano packed. You must choose those with the official mark.
The colour must not be too light.
As Lee said, the best quality is "Parmigiano Reggiano".
You should of course not buy the cheese called "Parmesan", it is simply not the same cheese.

I find it strange you can't find in Germany, with so many italians around, you should search in an italian food shop.A friend of mine in Frankfurt buys often Parmigiano, though she admits it's a bit expensive.

I have bought parmesan cheese in Italy and also here in the UK from specialist delicatessans. I've also bought it plastic wrapped from Aldi, but the portions are always smaller. The quality of both has always been high - its a key ingredient for Pesto (mmm - I'm addicted to pesto!)

I ordered parmigiano cheese from this website -- www.parmaitaly.it. I sent the order over the Internet on Sat. and received the cheese in California on Wed. My friend orders her cheese from this website all the time. Good Luck!
