Shenyang Go / Weiqi in Shenyang (and other cities)
Posted: Sun December 14, 2003 11:48 AM UTC
I am an intermediate (KGS 7k) Go player, and I am very interested in playing in coffee shops/clubs in Shenyang and other cities. I'll be travelling during Spring Festival, so perhaps I could stop in at a few local clubs... Sometimes I play with children at an elementary school, but I'd like to play an even game sometime. :) If anyone knows good places to play (in Shenyang or any other Chinese city!) I would be very grateful. I speak some Chinese, so language shouldn't be a problem.

I assume you know how to surf Chinese websites, if so, seach key words 'wei2 qi2 ju4 le4 bu4' at the places you are going to, you may find something interesting. The info you could find there (if updated) is especially useful, as lot of times, during Chinese holidays, locals do have certain 'friendship (or not)' competition. Universities/colleges do have their own club as well.

One more place: many people play them on the street, you may just ran into some high rank amatures. Try the local parks, ask your hotel people.

Thanks for the suggestion regarding internet sites, but I'm having trouble finding sites outside of Beijing and Shanghai. Also, I live in the Northeast, so it gets too dark to play in the park by mid-afternoon. I'll definitely switch to the parks once the weather warms up a bit and the days get a little longer.
