Richiedisc is on the front page slide show and a top contributor, plus it was his birthday! i'd say he's pretty well represented, huh?

Actually I think that a sheep is not exactly a wise idea as the "I don't have a picture-picture".

If I were new here and would be turned into a sheep automatically I would take it as an offense and would never come back. Also I know a lot of people who don't know how to handle computers well enough to upload pictures. Does this turn them into sheep? I don't know about other countries but here in Germany sheep are associated with "stupid".

Just an idea to think about.

Well that's one way to think about it and I considered it...we'll see if people really get turned off by it or not. I want the spirt of this place to shine through and they can put a photo up it's so elementary...but I hear your concern

Well, now I now why there are so many sheeps here today.
Here in Spain, like in Germany...sheeps are not very well consideer...it is asociated with people with no personality that just follow the group...so, I think I donīt like to asociate that picture with vters...If they donīt want to upload a photo, it is alright for me.

Anyway, it doesnīt mater very much to me. I think I like the new site! I have had some problems to log in...is it normal?

I have my doubts about the sheep too - sheep just follow the crowd and don't make up their own minds or think independently. That doesn't sound like the VTers I know! On the other hand of course, most of us do put up a photo, even those of us who prefer not to show ourselves - it tends to be only the short-term joiners, and (sad to say) those abusing the site, who don't bother to load up any photo at all. Still, maybe the sheep isn't quite the right image???

I love the look of the new homepage though, and the slideshow - my new ambition is to feature in it ;-) But it's all very shaky today - my homepage and travel pages keep crashing. I was going to update a few pages but I think I'll wait till it all settles down ...

"Barney The Sheep" ? Genderwise surely that's Bernice The Sheep, or Roger The Ram? (That's NOT an instruction!)

:)

<<I don't like being a sheep.>>

Easy solution. Post a photo ;) Doesn't have to be your face.

Yes...there will be a little bit of turbulence over the next day or two, but should then straighten out.

Thanks,

G

getting used to the new VT..... :-)

Nice so far, even I miss the "Notices" on its old form

I was just thinking whey there were so many sheep around!!

I would not like being "turned to a sheep' if I was joining VT today. Probably something cultural as already said, but I don't think this image is adequate for the 'no-photo' guys. It's a great photo, but IMO better elsewhere. People can get offended, or just get a wrong idea of what VT is.

I think it's a good idea. It might get some people to actually take stake in the web site if they see their photo is a sheep and they have to upload a new one. They might not just sign up, ask one question, and then leave to never return if they actually bother to do a little work.

You'll get an orange circle at the top of the page in the notices. If you have an orange circle, it means there's soemthing there and as Leics mentions you can see the number of things waiting for you.

Move your mouse over the link and you'll get a little window open up showing you the specifics. Then you can click on any of them. ;)

Just like the console only without an extra window or or pop ups or problems.

No disrespect to Barney but the photo is just so grey and blah. Surely there must something that better represents VT? I never particularly noticed how many new (photoless) people were asking questions on the travel forum each day. Now with Barney, it's just sheep all over the place.

If you don't want "nice" photos as an option (to encourage people to put up a photo) then even the VT logo would be better! By the way, people that stop by once to ask a question probably aren't going to be encouraged to put up their own photo no matter what is there.

That's certainly true Donna - they problably won't...that's why if we have a choice of photos we'll assign them randomly ;)

Thanks for remembering me guys. I don't spend much time on VT these days because I couldn't open my notice board in Firefox for months and without interaction the site got very very boring.

Not sure if I will come back now that the notice board is gone tho. I spend way too much time on Facebook and other sites these days. But I will definitely log in from time to time and I also still like the meetings! :)

You can still get all of your notices, you know, right? Anyway...I think you'll find ways to connect your facebook and vt experience shortly...
