Best place to buy theme park tickets and do we need a rental car?
Posted: Wed December 10, 2003 11:05 PM UTC
Hello folks!

Just booked a last minute flight to Orlando for Saturday (arriving Sat evening) and flying out earrrrrly Monday morning. Through Priceline, I got us a room at the Best Western Lake Buena Vista Resort, that's within the Disney area.

That said, I think the park we'll be most interested in visiting is Universal's Islands of Adventure.

First: Do you think we need a rental car, or are shuttles and cabs more cost efficient? The hotel does not charge for parking, by the way.

Second: Any recommendations for places to purchase discounted tickets for any of the theme parks?

Thanks!!
Jessica

JR, thanks for sharing your experience! As for the underwear... well it's the little things that make a story interesting.

If you plan to go anywhere else other than the parks a rental car, would be cheaper.
As for discount tickets. You must keep in mind that park tickets in the Orlando area are like currency, and it is not sensible to expect people to sell currency at a discount for no reason. Having said that, there are only two kind of places that sell park tickets at a discount: 1. Marketing promotions, and 2. Counterfitters. Be careful.

And enjoy.

Yes, rent a car. Some hotels have free shuttles to Disney World and Universal but a car is much more convenient. Also, you aren't going to find discount tickets without a catch. Most require you to sit through a very lengthy and very high pressure sales pitch to buy a time-share property. They'll give you free or very cheap tickets in return, but again, these are looooong and extremely high pressure sales pitches. You'll probably find scalpers too, but Disney and Universal are ahead of the game on that one and often have personal information about you inprinted on the card(ticket) other than just your name. Some Disney passes even have your photo on it to keep you from giving it to someone else. At any rate, both parks offer multi-day and multi-park passes at discounts from single-day passes.

Okee dokee -- I'm getting the message loud and clear. Get a car and be prepared to pay full price for tickets. Alrightee then -- ready to go! I've got a rental car reserved, got a hotel booked... when we get there, we'll buy a day ticket for Sunday and just run around to our hearts' content. Yippee!

Thanks gang!

Hi Jessica, we rented a car at the airport and returned it there also, it was the easiest way to get around and we did drive around "checking" the area while there both for things to do after the parks close and also for places to eat each evening and morning....

As for the tickets, we found a discount at the hotel we were at. The tickets were 10% less than gate price for our 4 day passes.

Take a look at some of the things we saw at the various parks, then let us know if we need to make a return trip ^L^

And best of all have fun, go on some of those scary rides.....

For discount tickets - I found that you had to sit through the time-share thing. But www.uescape.com has tickets available for a much cheaper price. When I last looked, the ticket price was $90.00 per person FOR FIVE DAYS. The one-day admission was $50. If you have a day or two before your trip, buy the tickets online, and have them waiting at "Will Call" for you.
