Please share with me and others where you are going to stay during official VT Euromeet in Krakow on 28-30 May, 2010, especially if you find good offer.

Well, please check regularly my webpage on that topic:

Hotel Pugetow just booked :-)
Posted: Thu December 17, 2009 09:28 PM UTC
I've just booked Hotel Pugetow for me and Urszula for 27/28/29/30/31 May:
http://www.booking.com/hotel/pl/pugetow.html
It's a very special hotel worth the price in my opinion. Anyway, if I find better offer I may cancel reservation with no charge up to 24th May.

This is a very good, comfortable and friendly, 3-star, tiny (only 7 rooms) hotel designed old style and located in very old building (excuse: they didn't allow them to build any lift there, that's why it couldn't get 4-stars) with secured parking lot (important for me). It's located close (some 20 min. on foot) from the Main Square, outside strict historic old town on the way to Jewish Old District (Kazimierz = Casimir). I didn't recommended it on the meeting webpage only because it's very small and often fully booked long in advance (no chance for any discounts for VT).

Just in case you are interested: there is one free room for 2 and one appartment available to book on booking.com now.
Room for 2 people with breakfast at our meeting dates costs 327,5 PLN per night (today it's 78,01 euro or 113,47 USD), appartment (more space and comfort) is more expensive.

Matt under snow today :-)))
P.S. I've watched Barcelona and Madrid in Spain under snow today haha.

Barcelona under snow?? Do not believe all you see on TV! We had a pretty sunny day today, nearest snow is in the mountains about 50 Km away. Quite cold for our standards indeed: only 5ºC ;-)

This hotel looks fantastic but I guess I will book something basic and central...

Haha, only 5C in Barcelona? We had -10C in the morning.

Unfortunatelly I am limited to hotels with parking lot which are mostly very expensive in strict - closed for traffic - downtown. Let's wait for special offers of hotels/hostels for VT. There will be some, I know, as many hotel/hostels managers or owners e-mailed or called me in recent days asking many detailed questions. So, they are all working on some offers for us, I suppose. We will see soon.

Matt.

Good morning from cold Finland,
it's only 16 BELOW zero. All the cold winds from Siberia coming straight to Finland...But there's snow!
I just checked the Krakow packages again.. There's now a new hotel for me, Ascot. with the same price as Atelier. Flights with Finnair (only trying to get that because I'd love to have the luxury of a direct flight....A short distance from here, only two hours!)
Goodness - after ONE MONTH I know for sure if I'm there! :))
Once again, there will surely be offers on the annual Travel Fair in Helsinki and I go there with enough money etc and book everything that I need.

Funnily, one nurse seems to be from Poland in the nursing-home where my father is. I may ask her a few tips, too, later on.
All the best now, enjoying the last day (officially) at work.

Matt, thanks for the tip. I changed my mind and booked the Pugetow instead of the Andels. It looks lovely and has more to do with Krakow then the design of the andels..;-)) . Booked the double room, now it's showing only the apartment left I guess.

Great news and choice, Teresa! We feel flattered to have you as a neighbour.

You should be very satisfied about this hotel. Warning: no lift in this hotel but, no worries, in old-fashionable and conservative Krakow women never are allowed to carry any luggage upstairs.

Right, only one apartment (100 euros/night) left available in Pugetow hotel for our dates (27-31 May) now:
http://www.booking.com/hotel/pl/pugetow.en.html

Matt.
P.S. For many "organizing" reasons it's possible that we will have to change the hotel... hopefully not but who knows...

Hotel Pugetow is located about 10 min. (on foot along well lighted main street with trams) from the edge of the strict, closed for traffic, historic old town. So, it's not very exactly in the strict center but very close, a bit futher than andels though. Depends on your legs (their longiness and fastnest) it's 15-20 min. on foot from the Main Square (the same distance as andels).

All hotels and hostels I recommended here:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/abbb9/#TL
("where to stay in Krakow" album by VT-member EuromeetKrakow2010)
are located at the very strict center (mostly closed for traffic; full of bars/restaurants/shops, tourist attractions etc. but also noisy and crowded at some places and hours) or just outside this area; the most distant hotels: Kossak to andels are located about 20-30 min. on foot one from each other, most listed hotels/hostels are located 5-15 min. one from another.
Only two recommended hotels (B.A.S. and Dwor Kosciuszko) are located outside the above area but at a distance of only about 5 min. (B.A.S.) and 10 min. (Dwor Kosciuszko) by taxi (thanks to seperate fast lane for buses and taxi on the often crowded way to old city center).

Hugs,
Matt.

Claus,
As I wrote above all recommended hotels/hostels (except just 2) are located at a distance max. 15-20 min. on foot from the Main Market Square, usually it's 0-10 min.
Tenths bars are located just around the Main Market Square = Rynek Glowny (the largest medieval square in Europe) with tables and umbrellas put outdoor on the Square as well as in many inside courts of tenement houses around the Square. Add numerous bars (usually smaller ones though) on 11 streets leading to the Square. Ask DAO.

I think you (we) may need a bar enough large and with fast service. At busy evening hours especially on Fri and Sat many bars tend to be slow, so in a larger group it's better to order 50 beers (or vodkas) at once :-). They always love such orders, I suppose haha.

Both VT-dinners are planned at centrally located restaurants (one in the strict center, one in the center of Old Jewish District called Casimir = Kazimierz) and both have a bar as well as not very large outdoor garden with tables for smokers (and drinkers :-). In case of rain they will put up umbrellas there. They also promised that they will sell for us all alcoholic drinks at normal price, like in bars around (usually alcoholic drinks are more or even much more expensive in restaurants). Apart from that maybe we will have a sponsor for beer, but it's too early to say anything about it. If the restaurants agree to be open (very) long hours for us with no additional fee (hmm... I still negiotiate it; I even agree to become your bartender :-) it's not bad option to stay in the restaurants after dinner on Fri and Sat. Don't you think so?

Matt.

GLOBTROTER GUESTHOUSE - a very good deal on HRS!
Posted: Mon December 21, 2009 06:08 PM UTC
From Bernd_L (posted in another forum):
<<<Posted: Mon December 21, 2009 11:33 AM CET I've just booked my room at Globtroter Guesthouse and got a good deal with the hotel reservation system (www.hrs.com). I use this website quite often and can recommend it. Price for a single room is 35,25 €. For breakfast they charge an extra 10 polish zloty.>>>

My comment:
Thank you for sharing and my congratulations. It's a very good deal as for the quite good accommodation at perfect location. I always recommend Globtroter Guesthouse to my VT-friends coming to Krakow but at some weeks it's much more expensive than your price. A few VT-ers stayed there and they were very satisfied. I visited Globtroter twice with my VT-friends staying there and the staff was both times English speaking and helpful. In quite many hotels in Krakow there is German speaking staff as well. Menu in probably all restaurants/bars in downtown is in Polish, English and German.
Well, I e-mailed them VT-request of special, discount prices for us and still wait for the reply (deadline is 28 Dec.).

Matt.

AAE Mosquito Hostel is very centrally located and looks quite nice! Good choice and good price. Congratulations.

Matt.

P.S. Just one warning: many accommodations in the historic center of Krakow in budget category (hostels/rooms or apartments to rent) have no lift/elevator and floors/stores are very high in old tenement houses. All recommended hotels have lifts/elevators.

Allan,

It's a very good deal, congratulations. This accommodation looks great but as I have just check "no more rooms available for 27-31 May 2010":
http://www.booking.com/hotel/pl/sodisparaparthotelkrakow.html
Maybe someone will cancel his/her reservauion.

Google.maps says that it's 1,9 km and 23 min. on foot from the Main Market Square, it's not that bad + you may take a taxi to Barbakan (Barbican; 2 km and 6 min.) or use trams running down along Dluga (Long) Street to get to the Old Town.

Do enjoy.
Matt.

P.S. On 30 Dec. I will pubicize discount offers exclusively for VT-meeting attendees received from some hotels in downtown Krakow (and one or two hotels located outside downtown).

Alan,

Sodispar Aparthotel & Apartments is located in quite (I think safe day and night) area close to local market and transportation knot (called Nowy Kleparz). It's also close to huge Military Hospital at Wroclawska St. where I was examined when some crazy military people desperately wanted to force me to take a job in Polish military special forces stationed close to Krakow (not very pleasant memories but I survived their examinations and interviews haha).

Hugs,
Matt.
P.S. Warning: old prison for serious criminals (at Montelupich) is close to your hotel, too :-)
