Re: Re: How is New Year celebrated in Spain? Posted: Wed November 6, 2002 10:40 AM UTC
Hola, Stacy and Pat! would be nice to have U both for New Year here ;-) In Madrid people use to go to "Puerta del Sol" to celebrate it there, though I've never been there (too crowded, LOL). Normally people have dinner with the family, eat 12 grapes (one for each hour "dong") and after that some people go to parties from 1 to 9 or so. There are private parties and in discos and so. In some cities people have firecrackers and make a lot of noise after midnight...

That is a nice tradition Joaquin, a grape for each 'dong'. I suppose the parties after are for the folk that like there grapes a little more fermented :0) Thanks Stacy

In Marbella, there are lots of partys in hotels and things like that, that the people from here, we go to the orange square, where there are actuations all night long... and many pubs open all night, a cheaper and funnier option than a hotel :)
It would be great to meet you all for NYE in Marbella!!!
But first of all, meeting in Madrid on the 28-29 lol

Twelve grapes in 30 seconds or so does seem a lot... quite a mouthful. Is the aim to finish them before the last stroke of midnight?

Hey, Marianna, there are some cheap hostels in Madrid, where you can find shared dormitories for about 17 euros. You can have a look at: www.losamigoshostel.com

Thanx, Joaquin I was thinking to contact you re Madrid accomodations, however hostels, especially shared dorms is not my type :))) I prefer facilities and no more than 2 people in the room :)))

NEW YEARS IN SPAIN!!! Posted: Wed November 6, 2002 12:45 PM UTC
OH NO!!! I just saw ANOTHER opportunity to organise something else!!! I must be addicted or something (but what a nice addiction!). Anyway, as most of you know by now, I am organising a VT MEETING in MADRID for the XMAS HOLIDAYS and the MAIN EVENT will be held DECEMBER 28-29 (please see my home page, Madrid page and travelogue and Madrid Forum page for more information and updates). NOW my big question to you ALL, is the following: "Where would be the BEST place to celebrate NEW YEARS EVE in SPAIN? Madrid? Marbella? Barcelona? Cadiz? Somewhere else?" If the answer is different from MADRID, all you have to do is say the word and I will get working on it, if of course people would like to have something. I am awaiting impatiently for your answers! Hasta pronto, zuzu

Hi zuzu,
it doesn't matter a lot to me which city (however I have direct flights to Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga, so these cities have priorities :))))) just a mare thought that I might see my spanish VTers makes me think about going anywhere in spain :)))

Hi Lalique, The MADRID MEETING of DECEMBER 28-29 is still on. I just wanted to know the opinion of people for NEW YEARS. Mind you, there is a very, very good chance that we will just continue our celebrations in Madrid until we drop!!! Hasta pronto, zuzu
