Port Antonio safety in port antonio ,Jamaica
Posted: Mon December 1, 2003 11:55 AM UTC
Hi ! Picture soon ! I saw some super photos of Port Antonio , it looks like an exotic paradise . I want to see Port Antonio with my husband and 2 kids , ages 5 and 8, end Feb. 2004 for approx 11 days . We dont normally do the BIG resort thing , so it does seem our style . My concern was safety ,I am more nervous travelling with the children . We will stay perhaps at Fern Hill and beaches are within walking distance . Negril at Merrils is an option as well but we have fallen in love with Port Antonio from photos , articles etc. I even read it has a lower crime rate than some other tourist areas . Plase any input is great .I even rented 4 bad movies just to see P.A. !!! Thanx Faith

hello Faith,

I noticed that you`re from Montreal. I`m a journalist working in Quebec and I`m looking for stories from Canadians, especially people who are from or who have lived in Quebec, who can tell me there stories of spending Christmas abroad.

I`m interested in what Christmas season looks like, the particular ways that a country might celebrate Christmas, or simply what it might be like for Canadians to be away from home at this time.

If you do spend the Christmas season in Jamaica, please e-mail me at incogitable@hotmail.com. My name is Angelica.

There are no problems with safety in Port Antonio, as a matter of fact there are no problems with safety in Jamaica with regards to visitors, travellers or tourist. If you want to stay in a country villa or one in the city both places will safe for you to visit. If you are concern about safety you should send an email to the hotel/guesthouse you intend to stay and enquire about safety.everyone's experience and perception about who and what is safe in Jamaica is different..

Port Antonio is a very quiet village with nice people, you wonīt have any safety problem there. Negril is also beautiful but there are some drug dealers, I donīt think it is dangerous but you need to know.
Have a nice time!
Respect
Susana

Thanx Greg ! But we have allready booked at Goblin Hill Villas . We had been interested in Moon San Originally along with Fern Hill and Norse Point . But with 2 adults and 2 children we decided Goblin Hill best fit our needs . Although I believe you have 1 room with a big window seat that could have slept a child . We went with Goblin Hill over Fern Hill because it was slightly closer to SanSan than Fern Hill , is this true ... we understand both are on the hill and a good walk but G.H. closer a bit ... I had huge fears about safety , not so much from offical web sites (consulate travel warnings ) but more from chat sites . etc. There seems to be no middle ground with Jamaica , people truly love it or .... unfortunately all the negativity does have an effect and I have been hugely worried , of course I read all the negative stuff after I payed and booked !!! I have been reassured by people that Port Antonio has lower crime etc. And Jamaica looks like a beautiful rich country , Port Antonio especially . Thank You for responding Faith

Hi Diny Happy to hear you are back , sorry about the rain ! Cant wait to see Frenchmans Cove ! Sounds so beautiful ! The Fern Hill Club Resort is not the same as San Spice , I believe they are all private villas and a part of the Blue Lagoon Villas . Fern Hill Club is the Hotel up the hill , not quite as posh as san spice ! At any rate Goblin Hill should be fine and is fairly close to San San beach . Would love to have more tips and info after you are settled in ! Thanx Faith
