I will spend 9days to travel the following places:

poland : warzawa --> krakow -->

czech : praha -->

austria : vienna ---> salzburg

i think i will take trains to travel between those places. does it good to buy european east pass? i think it is quite expensive, but i don't know the prices of each single ride for the above places.
another question is, from the map of vienna, i found that those tourist attractions are far away from the train stations, and the same thing also happened in salzburg. is there any transportations connect them?

please help~~!!
thank you very much!!!

There are daily trains and an overnight train from Krakow to Prague. Travel time ranges from 7 hours for the day train to 8 1/2 hours for the night train. There are several trains between Prague and Vienna, travel time is between 4 and 5 hours, depending on the connections. Take a look at http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml to get an idea of train schedules.

The only reason you would want a European East pass would be for convenience. You definitely will spend more money than if you were to buy point-to-point tickets. Take a look at http://www.ricksteves.com/rail/comparetickets.htm for an idea of the cost difference. If you still want to buy a European East pass, you can get details at http://www.ricksteves.com/rail/easterneurope.htm .

Enjoy your trip!

Mark

Welcome to VT ! In my honest opinion visiting those five cities in nine days would be pretty rushed. They all are quite pretty and have many things to see. With your current schedule, you may see more train stations and hotel lobbies than sights. Where will you be arriving from, and where do you wish to depart ? What are some of your travel interests ? All of the cities on your list have tourist cards that can be purchased that may save you money on longer stays. These offer free or reduced public transit, and free or reduced museum and attraction entrances. You can do a web search for the "Salzburg Card, "Warsaw Card", etc, for specific information on each card. Gary

Warszawa - Krakow : 30 EUR
Krakow - Praha : 40 EUR
Praha -Vienna: 40 EUR
Vienna - Salzburg: 45 EUR

Some of these trips can be done cheaper by bus or by buying train tickets in advance.

Hi and welcome to VT!
I agree with Gary (lostsooner55): visiting these 5 cities in 9 days would let you see more trains than monuments...
Personally, I would choose one of these cities and visit it well (I prefer seeing as much as possible in one place than seeing as many places as possible but spending only some hours or a couple of days there). You could pick max. 2-3 cities and spend 3-4 days in each of them, which would give you an idea.
I have only been to Krakow and Wien and I suggest you'd visit them. You could pick Praha as third city, but I'd skip Warszawa and Salzburg. It wouldn't be worth paying the train ticket without having enough time to see enough attractions.

There are small trick in order not to pay full price for Wien-Salzburg ticket (47.5 euro), you just purchase Wien-Munich or Wien-Zurich 29 euro discounted ticket in advance on OEBB website and get off the train earlier in Salzburg, such trick saves you almost 20 euro ;)
You can as well check out http://europetrainsguide.com it has great tips for budget train travel in the region
