hello,
I am planning to go backpacking in asia for 6 months. doing my research, I came across Lakshadweep isle. I had never heard of it before. I realize you can not go there as a "backpacker" and am considering to actually spend some money (I can hear Indian board of tourism's sigh of relief) and turn into a cruise ship/resort person for a few days just to see the place. BUT is it worth it? does anyone know anything about these isle? kalpeni looks like the best one? any info is welcomed. |

Instead of spending some time aboard a ship, you could actually fly into Kavratti in Lakshadweep. However be aware that you need a special government of india permit (the travel agency should arrange that)

We spent some time on Bangaram and the Islands around there are probably the most beautiful islands we have ever been on.
We tried to book direct with separate flights, accomodation, permits ect but got so bogged down in red tape, and paperwork from the Indian government an tourist board that we eventually went to a travel agent and booked it as part of a package of 4 weeks in Kerala, it turned out exactly as we had tried to book and cost about half of what We were being quoted trying to do it ourselves! But the Islands are absolute bliss!
