| Qufu | Qufu worth a special trip? Posted: Sat November 29, 2003 11:14 AM UTC
Anyone able to advise me on Qufu? How far a trip from Beijing is it and is it worth a special trip? I am much interested in Chinese religious traditions.

Well, I don't remember, how far Qufu is from Beijing. I stopped in Tai'an on the way.
But Qufu is an excellent place. Big wonderful temples, the Kong cemetary and some nice streets... Please see my Qufu-Page for a few pics. I just loved Qufu!! It is not really "Off the Beaten Track", but not many Western Tourists go there. It is a must for Chinese tourists, it seems.

Thanks---just what I needed to hear. I will be braving the north China winter in early February and will definitely make Qufu a stop. I'll check out your pages for some more tips. Looks like we've been to lots of the same places, but I haven't had time (nor the internet connection) allowing me to post my photos and expand. Maybe with time.

| Qufu | Beijing-Qufu via Tai'An Posted: Sun November 30, 2003 08:40 AM UTC
It's 7 hours by train from Beijing to Tai'An. From Tai'An you can catch a bus to Qufu for the extra one hour trip through the Shandong countryside.
