Printing digital pictures
Posted: Thu November 27, 2003 07:08 AM UTC
Hi !

I would like to print digital pictures in HK and was wondering how common that is (can I just pop up in any photo shops and hand in a CD?)
What is the price per pic ?

If that is uncommon, can someone give me the address of photo shops that would print digital pictures ?

I know that in France for instance, it has become pretty common. One just needs to give them a CD. We can even send our picture files via the web and retrieve the pictures the next day, it's very convenient.

I know that developping pictures has always been cheaper in Asia (sometimes a third of the price in Europe!!!) so I want to have a few of my digi pictures printed out before heading back to Europe.

Thank you for your help !

A lot of the photo shops will print digital photos.
They work out at about the same cost as printing from negatives (Or at least they did when I was there last in September 2002).
I used the place by the Post Office in Kowloon (Middle Road) and always got good results.

hi~

It is VERY common to print dig. photos here because digital cameras are just like cell phones now - people seem can't survive without them : P

I know there are at least 2 ways for giving a shop your dig. files:
1. burn a CD; or
2. give them your CF Card/memory stick (will return to you right after they've copied your files on their computer).

I haven't heard about sending the files to the shop here.. ..sorry..

I totally agree with you about the comparison of prices and I really think that the prices of developing photos in Hong Kong are VERY reasonable. One 4R dig. photos will cost you around HK$1-1.5. (Try to avoid those big chain stores if you wanna have better prices)

I like going to the photo shops on Stanley Street (between Pottinger Street and Cochrane Street) in Central as they always have special offer on photo development on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Hope the above helps.

Thanks to you both for these precisions !!! I've taken note of them and will go hunt around Stanley Street as it's nearer to where I'll be living !

Cheers

I think the prices have dropped under HK$1 per photo now. I saw it for HK$0.90 per photo in Quarry Bay.

I think every photo shop can handle digital files or else they just don't survive, both CD or common memory card is okay. Chain store ( look for Fotomax) can hand you photo in 30mins, most store in 1-2 hrs, and you can got cheaper rate if you get photos on the other day. You can send your photos file through internet and they can deliver photos to you on the other day (check www.fotomax.com.hk), but I think you go by yourself is also very convenient as photo shops are everywhere (you can't believe it, nearly everyone in HK got a digital cam or digital cam phone anytime and taking snap shots), or you can arrange through hotel in a privilege and expensive style. :->
