There should be no probelm with bus or train from Berlin to Poznan. The question about when to book tickets is the same as always: summer (tourist) season can never be certain. In the case of bus tickets you should probably purchase it as soon as you can but if you'll be in Berlin some days then you ought not to have too much trouble buying the ticket when you arrive in the city. The train normally has enough seats available, even at the last minute. Tbe very worst that can happen (on the train) is that there are no "seats" available. I've had this happen once (Prague to Berlin, during the Cold War) and so I bought a ticket without seating. The passengers were very friendly and so we all took turns sitting and standing!

Bus - one-way PLN 245 (EUR 56) - not daily - need to book in advance

Train - 3 daily EC connections with no changes - travel time 3 hours - one-way normal fare EUR 36 - savings fares available from EUR 19 when booked well in advance (max 89 days). Other connections with 1-2 changes takes about 5 hours - one-way fare around EUR 32.
