Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Munich Augsburg, Würzburg or Regensburg?
Posted: Tue July 7, 2009 09:33 PM UTC
If you were to travel to one of these 3 cities, which one would you
choose and why?
- Augsburg
- Würzburg
- Regensburg

I am planning a 1-day trip from Munich via high-speed train and would
like to choose 1 beautiful city from the above 3. I already planned
trips to some other places in Germany including Rothenburg. That's why
I came up with the above list, since I have 1 more day to devote to a trip outside of the city.

Thanks!

I have only visited Augsburg. I was there one month in July 2005 for a German course and could visit it in depth. It is a beautiful city, maybe a bit underrated... However, I did not (and would not) take a high-speed train from Munich to Augsburg: the distance is too short to take advantage of the high speed, which means that a trip in ICE is only 8 minutes shorter than in regional trains (RE) but costs almost twice as much (19.50 euro vs. 11.30 euro).
Anyway, Augsburg is certainly worth visiting!

Regensburg is the No. 1 among these three - the only one that has not seen heavy destructions in World War II, one of the very few cities and towns in Germany that has authentic medieval architecture.

As much as I like both Augsburg and Würzburg and consider them worthwhile, if it has to be only one of the three my vote goes for Regensburg.

I agree with the predecessor to Regensburg by the three most beautiful cities. It has an entire old town. Augsburg and Würzburg are not bad, but not so originally because after the World War not as the original could be reconstructed. There are certainly good connections with the train every hour.
