Hello

I am planning to do the Salkantay Trail, would like to start ideally on 29th September or 1st or 2nd October and I am looking for other travellers interested to join me and register/book or to provide feedback (including the agency who organised it). I have Llama Paths and Enigma in mind but maybe someone else has another recommendation? As I am not too flexible with the dates, I would like to book already before I arrive in Cusco, to be sure that the hike takes definitely place on any of the 3 dates. Or does someone know whether during that period there are always hikes on that trail and no need to book ahead?

I recommend taking a look at Mountain Lodges of Peru, a friend of mine took a trip with them and loved it. They follow the Salkantay path as well. If you're still looking for options, check out this website: http://www.ekoventure.com, they have a database of tons of different trips and suppliers with reivews and everything so that should help you out a bunch. Plus, I believe you can talk to other travelers so you could aks around there for people willing to go on a trip with you. Good luck!

First, I suggest you post your need for travel meet-ups in the VT meetings section.
Second, if you need another recommendation for a hiking agency, check the pages of other VTers who've done treks in Peru. Also, check my general Peru page for further info on a local-based socially/environmentally-conscious hiking agency that we've used before. And do check that page for other info re: hiking permit availability, walking poles, etc.
Realistically speaking, your availability may not be in synch with permit availability. You need to have an adequate amount of time to pre-book a trek like this (including the Salkantay trek that you're planning to undertake) because there are lots of competition for these permits with the strict governmental regulations in place in the last few years that limits the numbers of hikers given entry. The limits (hikers: staff ratio) may not guarantee the availability on your desired hiking dates given that the date in question is fast approaching.
