The train runs from Malaga City via the airport and finishes at Fuengirola.
No train along the coast to Algeciras. Only bus.

Phew!

Try the coastal bus service (Alsina Graells, I think, red and white buses, quite frequent). Straight down the coast via Marbella and La Línea).

Using RENFE (train) you have to change at Málaga, and at what is now a NIGHTMARE - Bobadilla, and although it is a very scenic journey, it is a horribly long way round . . .
