World Maldives alternative
Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 06:50 PM UTC
Hi everyone, my partner and myself are planning our holiday in October this year. We have previously been to the Maldives, which was fantastic, but unfortunately our budget doesn't allow a trip there this year. However, we loved the feeling of being on a warm, sunny, island "in the middle of no-where" without too many people, so we are wondering if anyone can recommend a destination that can give us this, but preferably at a slightly less expensive price.. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

i don't know where you are living and the relative cost etc but my husband recently went to Puerto Rico and just loved it.
But maybe it is not quite an island in the middle of nowhere that yu are looking for.

What about Ko Samui Thailand. A beautiful island. Not expensive at all. I do know that the Maldives is rather expensive.

Unfortnatelly October would be not good for Maldives as it could rain the whole week, neither for Costarica, hurricane season and even an hurricane is not direct to CR, one in the area will make it be clouded, raining, windy, rough sea..
I heard Ko Tao is much better then Ko Samui for sea and beaches.

to do not spend too much and something like Maldives (in the way you want staying in the middle of nowhere) as places like those are well priced.
You might try Perhentians or Lang Tengah, there are peacefull and relative cheap, good snorkling, I've gone back to Lang Tengah last March and the only engine you could hear is sometime a boat, no cars there.. maybe October is too late as season.
Try Bali or Gili Islands, Lombok, Indonesia.
Just look for a good airfare to Malaysia/Indonesia and anything else it could be done once there.
AirAsia has low-cost flights also from London Stansted Airport (STN) to Kuala Lumpur and from there to Borneo or Indonesia.

The French Polynesian Islands are gorgeous (Bora Bora, Atoll Tikehau, Maupiti), but also a bit dear. Have heard good reports re New Caledonia and Fiji. Have no idea where you live though???
