U. S. Virgin Islands Caribbean cruise ships

These seem boring to us. They stop at the same main port at every island and we see the same dumpy towns and T shirt shops at every stop. Has anyone done any interesting cruising on a private yacht that stops at all the neat places the cruise ships do not? We are considering a private sailing catamaran for adventure and fun and would love to hear from anyone that has also done this.

nothing beats the USVI and BVI islands - I agree that so many tourist towns around the world are all the same, just selling junk

I like the BVIs - you can charter from the Moorings in Road Town Tortolla and then sail the Sir Francis Drake Channel to so many wonderful little places - (see my VT pages)

Peter Island, the Soggy Dollar bar on White Beach and the Willy T

we like the Abacos, Bahamas too - see my Green Turtle Cay pages

I second the advice about the BVIs. I sailed there many times and never got tired of visiting the beautiful islands - far less touristy than the American Virgins. I'm glad to see the Moorings are still in operation. We first chartered a boat from them in about 1980 when they were just starting out and had a very simple operation.

Enjoy!

absolutely - this is the way to do it - find a rich friend with a yacht, or you can charter on with a captain and cook and make your own itinerary
