Re: Interrailing Europe Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 07:20 PM UTC
My first advice is that you will be able to do this more cheapkly if you a) avoid buying any sort of interrail pass until you have checked the total of your point-to-point fares and b) organise your own accommodation etc.
If you want hostel accommodation, look at www.hostelbookers.com and www.hostelworld.com If you want hotels, start with www.venere.com and www.booking.com (both reliable sites).
Inetrrail (and Eurial) passes are only good value if you intend to do a great deal of train travel. Neither re train-operators.they are simply ticketing agencies. You will still have to pay supplements for seat reservations, sleepers/couchettes and to travel on the faster trains.
Railways are heavily subsidised in much of Europe, and fares are extremely reasonable.
Where do you want to start from? Where have you already been? What are your interests? How will you get to your start point?
All these questions are relevant if we are to suggest itineraries for you, so it would help if you could add a bit more detail.
You could fly to Rome, then train through Florence, Venice, into France and up to Paris. Or vice versa.
Or fly to Berlin and visit Prague and Budapest (and maybe Vienna).
Or fly to London, then Eurostar to Paris, then maybe Brussels, then Amsterdam.
It all depends on what you want to see and do.
If you want an organised tour you might be interested in www.busabout.com which runs 3 itineraries through Europe, offering a hop-on service to hostels.
