Arles Arles to Bergerac

We are driving from Arles to Bergerac and are looking for a scenic route with villages to explore. We will have done the Dordogne on the first part of the trip and want to return by a different route. Carcasonne will be our last stop before Arles.

assuming is by car you are traveling as it is the best in the area to travel.
you can go out of Arles on the A64 autoroute fast or the D6113 road direction Nimes. There take the D999 direction Ganges continue on D999 direction Le Vigan, very mountain picturesques area, you come into direction Millau and the viaduct de Millau, very impressive bridge by taken the D992 toward Millau. Past Millau take the D911 direction Rodez; great natural parc naturel des grands causses to drive thru, direction Villefranche-de-Rouergue ,nice town along the river Aveyron.Continue on the D911 road direction Cahors, great cathar town to visit. Past Cahors take D811 road direction Villeneuve-sur-Lot, another picturesque city on the Lot river, here link up with the N21 national road to Bergerac.

You can use a good map michelin or IGN once in France, scale 1:125 000 but not bigger than 200 000. and guidance but never exact from viamichelin.com or Mappy.com sites.

If you need more specifics let me know, i drive all over ::) Hope it helps

Hi,
When you leave Carcassonne, you can take the RN or the direction of Montpellier.
You can stop and visit PEZENAS which is on the road to Nimes and 50 km from Carcassonne.
If you have time, you can visit the hinterland, Villeneuvette, The Devil's Bridge, St Guilhem le Desert, ...
Have a good trip.

We've taken the route pedmar suggests above and it is stunning. We stopped for the night in Rodez and voted it the friendliest town on the route. Everyone seemed so happy. Don't know why.

BTW, do drive across the new Milau Bridge. It is amazing. You won't believe how high it is, nor how beautiful.
