Florida Keys Key West to Key Largo - no driving
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 03:49 PM UTC
Anyone have any suggestions for getting from Key West to Key Largo? I know Miami Beach 411 can offer me a link on their tour bus but it only runs once a day at 4:30pm and I would prefer to depart earlier - that would cost US$60 - wondering if there's other options, possibly cheaper?

Maybe there's a ferry boat? I'm more familiar with northern Florida, but that seems to be the type of place where boats would be put to good use.

When I'm lost I look for a wikipedia article - so here's one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Keys

There's a transportation link towards the bottom, I did not have time to check that the link was good - but it does mention a bus connecting all the keys.

Enjoy!

... hate to leave something half answered -

looks like Greyhound will do the trick:

There was a little note somplace along the search that stated they did not sell tickets in the bus station - not sure what they meant but you may want to further check on that link.

Thanks for the info so far. Can't find anything on ferry services. The Greyhound is an option (only US$15.50) but that would get me into Key Largo at 10:55am and there aren't many hotels who will allow you to check in at that time.

Any further suggestions?

I'm googling but not getting anywhere.

Sometimes the hotels will bend their rules a little and if they do have a room they'll let you check in. If not I'm sure they'll hold your luggage and you can probably find a place to freshen up until it's ready.

By the way, "bus" in "Cuban" is "guagua" (gooah-gooah) - emphasis on the "ah". Just in case it comes in handy. ;=)

I wouldn't worry too much about the hotel -- I don't think I've ever been anywhere that they wouldn't hold your stuff until it was time for check in.

Plus, if that's the best way to get into Key Largo, the hotels are probably used to that.

Enjoy your trip!

ooops ... for guagua, emphasis on the first "ah" only --- sort of like the "pow" accent on pow-wow.

greyhound is the best option, without a car (king of travel there). there is the shuttle but do not know the cost or use it.

The GREYHOUND KEYS SHUTTLE - (800) 231-2222 has three daily scheduled departures from the Miami & the Miami Airport to all areas in the Keys.

KEYS AIRPORT SHUTTLE 1-888-765-9997; Keys Airport Shuttle provides daily door to door shuttle service to and from Key West & the Florida Keys, Miami & Ft. Lauderdale airports.

hope it helps

Thanks Pedro. Do you have website details for the Keys Airport Shuttle?

I'm struggling with the Greyhound website if I split my stay - it shows that the Greyhound stops at Key Largo but it doesn't seem to offer tickets from there to MIA. Strange!
