4 day BKK trip itinerary - What can u say? Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 05:02 PM UTC
Hi guys! My husband and I have been looking forward our BKK trip. After doing some research, here is what I’ve gathered, thus turned it into our 4-day itinerary. Again, you guys have been reliable since day one of our trips around the globe so I hope you can share your generous opinions as to where to go/where to eat/must-see or what not to miss..
DAY 1: ARRIVAL ON A SATURDAY @ 1435H
1.We’ll spend 1st day doing all shopping after quickly unpacking. Where would you recommend we go first? Siam Paragon, MBK, Pan Thip Plaza – dvds; Chatuchak Weekend Market, Suan Lum Night Bazaar
2.Dinner/ Nightlife districts @ Sukhumvit Rd; Night Market @ Sukhumvit – any suggestions on where to go/where to eat/must-see or what not to miss?
DAY 2, SUNDAY – AYUTTHAYA/FLOATING MARKET
1.A day-trip to Ayutthaya – is a half day trip enough for this? How much is a taxi ride to/from here?
2.Go to Floating Market at Talad Nam Damnoen Saduak, the Rose Garden (Thai shows, dances, marriage, elephants, and Thai village; is it better if we get a tour for this? Suggestions please.
3.Dinner/ Nightlife districts @ Khao san road; Is Patpong Market near here? How much to watch ladyboy show? – any suggestions on where to go/where to eat/must-see or what not to miss?
DAY 3, MONDAY: CITY/TEMPLES TOUR
1.Chao Phraya River Tour – is this different from canals/klongs tour?
2.Visit the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Po, etc
3.Optional: Go to Jim Thompson House/ Vimanmek Mansion – manageable?
4.Sunset dinner cruise - should this be booked? Or can we just walk in? For how much?
5.Nightlife districts @ Silom Village – any suggestions on where to go/where to eat/must-see or what not to miss?
DAY 4: DEPARTURE – What would you recommend from 8AM to 11AM? Our flight back home is at 3PM.
From the looks of it, Bangkok is gonna be my next favorite city 
Thanks thanks again.

My only comment is that I think to try and do Ayuthaya and the floating market at Damneon Saduak in one day is not a good idea. Ayuthaya can take most of a day and is to the north of Bangkok whereas the floating market is about a 2 hour drive to the south west of the city.
Please see my travel pages for more tips on Thailand.

John

Where are you staying. Khaosan is a ways from all you shopping destinations.
Arriving after, 2pm, I would give Chatuchak a pass. You''l have plenty of shopping without it. Start at MBK (Mah Boon Krong for taxi drivers), then shop your way east. Except for Pantip, most of the major malls are practically connected.
You must reserve dinner cruises. They don't do walk ups.
The entry fee for the gGrand Palace includes a ticket to Vimanmek, to be used within 7 days.
Jim Thompson is near MBK. You might fit it in during that area's visit.

I agree with johnaalex that Ayutthaya is a whole day tour. Usually you include Bang pa In Summer Palace which is stunning, and I found one day wasn't enough, I liked this area. The floating markets is only a half day. The Khlongs tour is different to the Chao Phraya river cruise. I just caught the local ferries along the River, you see the same only with no commentary or booklet. For all that you want to see, I would do what you really want to see 1st, as I don't think you will fit everything in. Best to check out peoples tips by clicking on their names, then on their travel page Bangkok, Ayutthaya etc to get pointers on what you want to see and do.
