niagara falls via amtrak

Hello
I will be coming to Ontario through Niagara Falls by train later this month. My Amtrak ticket is for New York City to Niagara Falls and then I have a ViaRail reservation for Niagara Falls to Grimsby ON. I am wondering if I have to get off the train (I think it is the same train/different crew)to get my ticket and reboard to carry on to Grimsby. I have asked this question of both ViaRail and Amtrak but have not be able talk to anyone with the answers. If anyone has any knowledge of this, I would really appreciate your help.

I went from Buffalo NY to Toronto by Amtrak/Via a couple of years ago. When the train stopped at Niagara NY passengers were advised that if they were not crossing the border that they should leave the train now. Then they locked the train doors and the Canadian border officials came round with the immigration/customs cards. They gave us about 10 minutes or so to fill them in and then collected them along with everyone's passport. All-in-all were were there for about an hour (during which time the buffet car was restocked by the Via Rail staff and the crew changed).

BTW You couldn't leave the train and then rejoin it as the doors stayed locked until it was over the border.

I assume it's still the same system these days.
